“I want this forever,” I say, shifting with them into a cuddle pile while I lay on Micah with Dante and Kase on one side, and Zade and Andre on the other with Lucian playing with my hair as he sits above Micah at the head of the bed.

“This will be our forever. We swear to it.” Lucian kisses my forehead. “Cassius will come to us soon. He will bring Elias with him. And then, Hell will rise. I’m sure that the guardians will fall.”

I sigh and nod my head. “I know. I just worry it will take too long.”

“It won’t, angel-girl. It’ll happen sooner than you think.” Kase reaches over Dante and touches my chin. “Can you feel him?”

I frown. “What?”

“Someone is watching us.” Dante rests on his elbow and leans in, bringing his lips to my ear. “Cassius is back. Elias might’ve taken them from Hell, but it seems he can’t get himself to actually stay away.”

I sit upright and peer around. Angelic pervs, I swear. “Should we get them?”

“Why don’t you? We’ll be right here and ready if he tries anything stupid. I don’t think he will though.” Andre looks into my eyes. “Not with the tattoos. Not in our kingdom. Things have changed and he knows it.”

“Go on, heathen. See what the dejected angel wants.” Micah helps me sit up, summoning a shirt for me to wear.

Damn it. I don’t want to, but I know I should. He is part of our plan, after all.

“All right. Fine. But if you’re wrong, you’ll all get a little punishment from me,” I say. My devils help me from the bed, ensuring that my legs still work. I stride toward the bedroom door that suddenly leads out of the palace as if Zade changes the very foundation of his kingdom.

I catch sight of Cassius standing under a tree made of bones.

Something comes over me, my world darkening. Thrusting my hands out, I blast him with hellfire. I just want him to pay.

Chapter 22

RAVEN

Guardian’s Path

CASSIUS FLIES TOWARD me, sending a gust of wind strong enough to throw the fire out of his path. He crashes into me and flips me around, taking the brunt of the fall onto his back. This fucker.

He knows how to capture me in a way that I struggle to fight. My devils are probably either thinking about punishing me for not fighting harder or dodging or some shit, or they are thinking about ways to help me without showing themselves. Except maybe Andre. He might be trying to get Cassius to give into desire. Because I swear that he is turned on already. I lay on top of him, straddling his waist, but my head rests on his shoulder and he restrains me by tightening his arms across my back.

“I am not here to fight or take you from Hell, Raven. You must believe me. I’m here with good intentions.” Cassius has the nerve to stroke his fingers along my spine as if the gesture will settle me down.

Damn. It might be working, and I hate it. I want to punch him and just stay on top of him like this because the gesture feels amazing.

“Then why are you here? You still have your wings and your heavenly light. I don’t understand what you’re waiting for. You should just turn your back on Heaven already. I will get to you,” I mumble against his tight chest, my mouth automatically inhaling a breath of his scent.

“Do you always sniff everyone?” he asks instead of answering my question.

I glower and wiggle, trying to break free of him. “If they smell good, yes. It’s not that I want to fucking smell you, but we are so close, and you won’t let me go. Be careful, because I might start kissing you too. Actually, I will start kissing you. I know that you’ll be uncomfortable about it and let me go.” I stretch my neck and prove my point by brushing my lips to his jaw. “Just another two inches, and I’m about to go to war with my tongue against yours.”

“If it will get you to settle down and stop trying to fight me, then okay. You may kiss me.” Cassius drags me those two inches and kisses me first, slipping his tongue into my mouth and deepening the kiss quicker than I even have a chance to react.

The fucking bastard. He’s always so hot and cold, and I should not be out here making out with him on the ground. I know the devils watch me. I only was supposed to come out here to find out what he wanted. Surely, it wasn’t me...I think.

I jerk back and scowl at him. “What the actual fuck?”

He raises an eyebrow, his lips twisting to the side as he studies my face. “You threatened to kiss me, so I took you up on that threat. Was something wrong? Didn’t you want that? I’m trying to be reasonable and open toward you. It’s the only way for you to actually calm your tits and listen to me.”

“You did not just tell me to calm my fucking tits.” I narrow my eyes at him, trying with everything in me not to react to his words. Angels should not be telling me to calm my tits. He shouldn’t even be saying tits. I swear his strange similarity to Lucian gets to me in a good way. It’s like I have a thing for jerks, or maybe it’s because I have my sweet psychos too, and I just like a variety.

Damn. I push the thought from my mind. I’m already distracted enough as it is, and Cassius’s kiss only left me in a state of confusion.

“Of course, I told you to calm your fucking tits. You need to calm everything. I came here to talk to you. It’s important, and I know if you start fighting as hard as you can, you’re going to blast me right out of Hell. It hurts enough to stay here as it is.” Cassius rolls over and plants his elbows at the sides of my head. Leaning in, he captures my gaze, his mesmerizing amethyst eyes so beautiful in this moment that I could stare at them forever. “Now, let me kiss you again until you finally realize that I’m on your side despite you being bound to the devils, which was a terrible decision on your part. By the way.”
