“Elias, stand down immediately. This is Heaven’s war, and if you do not bow down and prove your loyalty, we will imprison you again. You will not be free to make your poor choices any longer.” I spin around and look at Mikail as he stands before me with white wings, not unlike the saviors. He has managed to gain more power, no longer carrying the gold ones associated with the angelic army. He’s no longer a guardian. He is a savior like me.

“Fuck off, you asshole.” I spread my legs apart and re-position my body to fight him.

But I don’t get the chance.

A dozen figures materialize around me, and I don’t have the chance to do anything except tense my muscles as the angelic army blasts me with heavenly light. They chain me to the weird world again. I can’t escape. I can’t help Raven.

Once again, I have failed her.

I’ve failed humanity. I have failed Heaven and Hell.

God, help me.

Chapter 25

KASE

Angelic Demons

I SPEW RUBY power at Cassius the second he materializes with Raven. I nearly ripped Andre’s wings off for returning without the love of my fucking eternity. I was about to destroy his entire kingdom for losing her like he had. I had trusted him, and he failed by not binding himself more tightly to Raven.

“Give her to me!” I holler, launching through the air in my devil form. Cassius doesn’t even have a chance to release Raven before I sink my teeth into her shirt and drag her away from him.

She screams at the sudden movement, and Zade catches her in his arms. He summons his purple power into a shield, stopping Cassius from trying to rush him to get to Raven once more.

“Take me back!” Raven screams, her voice stinging my ears. I haven’t heard her sound so desperate ever. Whatever she saw has left huge, gaping scars across her soul, inked in black far darker than anything found here.

“What the fuck?” Dante shouts, spreading his wings to separate Zade and Cassius. I consider launching over him and plowing into Cassius to growl in his face. My wrath controls me, stealing away any sense. All I want to do is punish him. He should have returned immediately with Raven even though Andre lost the tether. Instead, he fucking stayed on the other plane with Raven for what felt like years.

“Everyone, calm the fuck down.” Lucian’s deep, raspy voice reverberates through my bones, and he stomps his feet and shakes the world around us hard enough to send us all toppling to the ground. He taps into Hell, using the tether he currently shares with Micah. I don’t know when he took it, but he obviously needed the extra power to get through to us.

“I said take me back! Zade, let me go! I need to go to Cassius. Now! They are torturing him.” Raven smacks her hands against his chest, fighting for him to release her.

“Don’t let her go,” Andre says. He strides toward Raven, but Zade shuts him out by turning his back. Even though they are companions, this affected Zade as much as it affected me.

I know it wasn’t Andre’s intention, but even if it were an accident, it still happened. Things could’ve been worse. What if Cassius didn’t return here? I’m nearly fucking certain it was our little devil spawn to bring her back. I see a dark chain tethering me to her stomach.

“Raven, you need to take a breath. There is nothing in this world that I want more than to bring Elias back, but not at your expense. He wouldn’t want that.” Andre locks Raven in his gaze, towering over Zade and staring at her.

Her eyes water with tears, but she doesn’t cry. She’s not sad. She’s pissed the fuck off, and I can feel the heat of her anger and fury from over here. Usually, I would think it was hot, but it burns over me, making me a bit uncomfortable.

“I need you to please forgive me. Please trust me. It is not safe for you, considering that they manage to use him to tap into your darkness. We need to keep you out of reach. No more shifting planes. No more going to the Mortal Realm for anyone.” Andre expands his leathery wings and slowly spins around to meet my eyes. He stops and stares at me. “It’s worse than we thought.”

I clench my fingers and turn my gaze from his to Dante’s and then Lucian’s. We are the ones who lead our kingdoms. The other devils are still learning how to manage and navigate Hell. But we built this place from nothing.

“I need everyone to go to their kingdoms immediately.” I stride towards Zade and Raven. Andre doesn’t stop me as I dodge past him and open my arms to my angel-girl. “Raven, you’re coming with me and Dante. We need to take you to a place between our kingdoms and away from any of the ruling palaces. If what Andre said is true, we need to get you somewhere that will cut you off from your soulmate completely.”

“Let me help,” Cassius says, speaking up for the first time. “Something is utterly and completely wrong. The angelic army is—”

The world quakes and a large fissure cracks through the floor, exposing hellfire. A blinding light explodes from the crack, and I have no choice but to shield my eyes from the holy light. Raven screeches in fear, and I snatch her from Zade and summon my Hell power. I don’t wait before I shoot the ruby orb at the forsaken angel pulling himself from the pits that run throughout all of Hell. I’ve never seen anything like it. How did he break the chains? How did he get here in the first place?

“Give us the soul, and we won’t take your kingdoms.” The angel unfurls his burned wings, the golden feathers disintegrated with only bones now in place. “She is ours.”

“The fuck she is,” I say, blasting him back a dozen feet. He somehow manages to tap into Heaven.

Micah roars and grabs his chest, his mortal façade exploding into his Hell form. It seems almost uncontrollable for him, and he yells out. “Something is yanking on the tether. Someone is trying to break it.”

“Impossible!” Lucian yells, summoning his fire whip and taking his devil form as well.
