“Just let it all go, Raven. Release the darkness and let the light consume you. Let it consume us all.” Elias kisses the nape of my neck, his words raising curiosity in me. My fear was too intense for me to realize that he was acting this way because he does want to protect me and him. Not only that, but he also knows that I can protect myself. I have two incredible beings growing inside me that won’t allow anything to happen. We both see it. Not only can my angelic spawn send my devils to Hell, but I’m also sure that my little devil spawn can blast angels away.

“May a Higher Power have mercy on your soul and forgive you for your sins, Raven.” Meri joins Mikail’s side, and all of the angels raise their hands as if they are reaching toward the Heavens. Except instead of praying, they all shout out like warriors of God and throw their power in our direction.

“Hell, help me,” I whisper, squeezing my eyes shut and expecting the most agonizing pain to basically kill me and knock my soul from my body long enough for the darkness to vanish.

Utter and complete silence fills the air, and nothing happens. There’s no pain. There’s no more screaming. No more praying. I find myself with Elias in the middle of shimmering white and dark blending to make the perfect shade of gray. The perfect balance between white and black, light and dark, good and evil.

“Fuck yeah,” Elias mutters, his voice lightening with his excitement. “That’s our little devil. Our angel baby too.”

I blink through the mist, staring at the frozen angels, chained within the beautiful shadows protecting me. Their light continues to shine brightly as if they’re trying to break through the veil, but they can’t. My babies won’t let them. This world is pure and balanced, almost like the perfect Purgatory, keeping them away.

But it doesn’t stop me from reaching them.

A dozen emotions crash through me, and I force myself from Elias’s arms and summon a fire chain and an orb of heavenly light. My body buzzes and zings, the power exhilarating and all-consuming. All I can think about is walking toward the angels and serving justice for everything they’ve done. For everything they put me and my devils through.

“Raven, stop. Please, we have to go.” Elias grabs my hand, trying to yank me back.

Something shocks him, separating the two of us and sending him to his knees. I stare at the angels again and watch as a strange glowing light grows behind them. It’s fire. It’s Hell power. But not only that. It’s also the same brilliant light summoned from a savior. Cassius is with them. He found the devils.

But it’s the strangest thing. Neither the angels nor the devils can see each other. It’s as if the new planes keep us all apart.

“Raven! Raven!” Kase yells, the deep tone of his anger muffling through the veil.

I spot him strolling through the angelic army as if they’re not even there. Red power glows in his eyes, and he scowls and spins, shooting a burst of power at Cassius. But it goes right through him and explodes against a shimmering wall.

I was mistaken. Cassius isn’t with them. He’s with me.

“I can sense her. She’s nearby.” Dante appears beside Kase, and the two of them stand almost within the angel light.

“She’s gone. They’re both gone.” Mikail’s voice sounds through the air next, stealing my attention. Everyone seems to talk at once, trying to figure out what happened. He squints his eyes, trying to see the space in front of him where we once stood.

“Where is she?” Dante hisses with his words, his inky black wings spreading out and darkening the world around the angels.

“Where are they?” Meri asks at the same time, her words blending with Dante’s.

Elias grabs my hand again, lacing our fingers together, keeping me from breaking through the veil. “Raven, if we leave now, the angels can’t follow us. Please, we have to go.”

I shake my head. I can’t. I can’t just run away from this. I can’t stand by and watch as Heaven tries to take Hell from my devils. “Stop it. I won’t leave them. You need to help me break through this fucking realm. They’re worried.”

“They’ll get over it. They will understand why we have left. It doesn’t have to be forever. We can find them.” Elias steps into my personal space and touches my cheek, forcing my eyes away from my devils. “I know you want to fight but think about everything we have to lose. Please. We can’t stay. If we stay, Heaven won’t stop. The devils will fight until there’s nothing left as well. We can end the war here and now.”

“No. I won’t leave them.” Whipping my head back-and-forth, I send my hair sweeping around.

“Raven,” Cassius says, his soft voice drawing my attention away from the anger building up inside me again at Elias. He’s been so silent that I wasn’t so sure he was in this realm. I thought he could’ve been in another one completely or with the angels. “Your soulmate is right. We must get you out of here. I can return to the devils and tell them.”

I scowl at his words. “Of course, you want me to fucking go. You want nothing to do with Hell.”

“It’s not about Heaven or Hell. It’s about you.” Cassius shuffles closer, his looming presence igniting panic in me. I have a feeling that Elias and Cassius will team up and force me away. I can’t let it happen. I need to get to the devils.

Jerking around, I shoot hellfire at Cassius and Elias. They both holler my name, but I rush away from them and toward my devils. I need to get to them. If I can get to them, they can help me get through. We can leave together. We can figure a better plan that can keep the angelic army away. I just know it.

“Raven, stop!” Elias rushes after me. He shoots heavenly light at the same time that I blast hellfire at the veil. The world rumbles with a massive earthquake, knocking me off my feet and onto my knees. The veil shatters, and I find myself looking up at Mikail and Meri. All of the angels intake a breath at once, and I expect them to blast me out of existence with angelic power.

“You are an abomination to this universe. Where is Elias?” Mikail asks, pointing his sword at me.

Anger bursts through me, and I summon a fire whip and swing my arm, lashing it at the angel. It sizzles across his chest, and Meri tries to tackle me, pinning me to the ground. My whole body shudders at her closeness, and I bring my fist up and sucker punch her in the nose. Angelic power whips through the air, and I arch my back, the sensation of it stealing my breath. My stomach twists as hellfire crackles from my body, shaking this world and breaking whatever protection ward is in place keeping the devils out.

Kase roars in his devil form, towering over the angels and sending them scattering. Meri presses her palm to my forehead, and her angelic light blinds me. The world turns to nothing, and I think I pass out for a split second. Burning pain drags me from my unconsciousness, and I manage to pull my shit together and fight back. I scratch my fingers into her cheeks, blistering her skin as hellfire burns in my palms. Jerking my knee up, I strike her in the stomach and manage to roll her off me. I scramble away, trying to get to my feet. The devils and the angels fight, sending fire and angelic light around the shaking world and making it nearly impossible for me to stay upright.
