My stomach flips, wishing tonight could be different. But the crowd roars in excitement.

“You heard them, doll face! They want to see what you got.” Alexander throws his hands out, pretending to be responsible for the metallic confetti exploding through the air. “The highest bidder will get to sink their fangs into the hypnotic Ruby Vixen right here on this stage in front of everyone. Let’s show her she has nothing to be afraid of. One of you fine vampires will gladly pay the price and make the whole room succumb to jealousy.”

The music rises in volume, and I lose myself to the song, the sultry beat helping me focus on the routine and not the madness breaking out in the crowd. My aerial ring finally comes to a stop above the bed. I twirl my fingers, reaching behind me to press the small snap that’ll release my top, giving the crowd what they’ve truly come here for—a glimpse of me in all my bitable glory.

Whistles and yells hum through the air, and I remain swaying with my fake smile, concentrating on the bright lights instead of the crowd. Cool air gusts around me, sending my hair away from my boobs, giving the club the perfect view of my hard nipples. Opal ensures the place is cold on purpose.

I slowly, seductively spin around the ring and stretch out my arms toward the bed, striking my final pose. The music lowers again, and I wait for Alexander to return to the stage, but he remains in the crowd.

“Hey, Ruby Bloody Vixen! Sexy girl! While those fuckers keep you waiting, why don’t you hop on down into my arms?” A tall vampire flashes his fangs at me. His bald head gleams in the stage lights, and he flicks out his tongue. “Let me suck on those sexy-ass titties.”

I remain smiling and ignore him. If I give him even an ounce of my attention, he’ll take a mile. By his appearance, he looks like a backrow player, here on credit, and far from someone able to pay whatever cost Alexander has on a couple minutes of my time.

“Ruby! Come on, baby doll. Don’t be a bitch. I’m far more superior than those assholes fighting over there. I know you don’t want to be bought like a prostitute. Just jump into my arms, and I’ll get you out of here. We can have a fucking fantastic time.” The vampire traces my silhouette like he can imagine putting his gross, dirty hands on my body.

I don’t know exactly what he’s implying by what I think is a back-world term with prosti-whatever it was, but he makes it sound like my performance is intended to end with more than a bite. He’d have to be invited as a guest to a private show for something more, and thank God that isn’t happening. If his hands are this dirty, I’d hate to know what is under his torn jeans.

“Don’t ignore me, baby. I’ll take good care of you,” he continues, wiggling his fingers.

I can’t control my annoyance and flip back up. My head rushes for a moment, forcing me to blink a few times. Where is security? He did mention there was a fight of some sort, but I can’t see anything past the stage.

“You blood slut. Look at me when I talk to you.” The vampire climbs onto the bed, causing it to roll a foot. He jumps into the air and tries to grab me, but I’m still high enough above him. “Come on. They’re finishing up.”

I lick my lips and flick my gaze around. If security is busy, then where the fuck is Opal? No one ever makes it this far on stage. This guy is turning belligerent with his anger at me not giving him even a glance.

“Fucking Ruby. Come on!” the guy growls.

The music suddenly cuts off, and the lights go out. My hoop jerks and freefalls a couple feet, startling me. I tighten my hands around it in fear, knowing what’s going to come. The bastard vampire can reach me, and sure enough, a cool hand wraps around my ankle. I screech, swinging the ring on the wire. Kicking my leg, I try to knock the vampire away, but it’s impossible. No one can hear me either with the cacophonous fight breaking out in the audience.

A siren blasts through the air, nearly sending me crashing right into the vampire’s arms. I catch my glow-in-the-dark hoop and dangle a foot above him. If someone didn’t hit the switch to reel my ring back toward the platform above, he would’ve gotten me.

“Hayley, Alex needs a distraction. I have to make it rain. Get ready.” Opal tosses me a small bag, and within it, a glittering dagger. It must be serious if she refers to Alexander by his casual name instead of taking the time to be formal.

The spotlight jerks across the stage. One of the technicians manages to regain control. The world remains dark around me, and I lick my lips and wait for Opal to whistle, drawing the crowd’s attention to me.

I click on my hidden microphone, wishing I didn’t have to do this. It’s one thing to bare my body to a bunch of vampires. It’s another to tempt them with my blood. The psycho below me still remains in his spot, the security personnel choosing to handle the bigger threat the rowdy crowd poses. They must do so since I’m out of reach and in Opal’s care. Not that I can complain about it to Alexander even if I wanted to. Unless I’m on the verge of death and cutting off his income, he doesn’t really give a shit about me.

I force my mouth to smile, listening to Opal whistle again, louder this time. Clearing my throat, I project my voice loud enough that no one will be able to ignore me. “Master Aris, you were right. I think the whole room might want a taste of me. I’m so happy for your excitement!”

My friendly, sweet voice quiets down the room, and another spotlight lands on Alexander. He adjusts his sparkling suit jacket and manages to compose himself, tucking away his dagger. Four members of his security team surround him, and they guide him back to the stage. This isn’t the first fight I’ve experienced during a performance, and I’m sure it won’t be the last. There is something about Vampire Nights that gets to the crowd. Possibly because this is one of the few places that vampires of all statuses mingle or maybe it’s the excitement of watching the best donor show around. Either way, I’m just glad heads haven’t rolled.

“Oh, my baby doll. Of course I was right. So much so that one of these assholes thought he could buy you right out from under me. The audacity!” Alexander whips his attention toward someone in the crowd and winks, acting as if the offer hadn’t gotten under his skin. No one messes with Alexander Aris’s girls unless they want to find themselves forced to the shadows out on the La Vega Strip.

I fake a gasp. “Which asshole?” Swinging on my hoop, I stretch forward and spread my arms wide like I’m trying to get a better view of the audience. “I’m so flattered that I want to blow him a kiss.”

Alexander chuckles, playing along with our impromptu change in the performance. “I think I have something better in mind. There are a helluva lot of bastards here tonight who would kill for a taste of you. Why don’t we let them?”

I form an O with my mouth and cover it with my hand. “Are you suggesting what I think you are?”

He wags his brows. “Damn right, baby doll. Someone’s gotta learn a lesson.” Turning toward the crowd, Alexander strides to the edge of the stage. “Rule number one here in Vampire Nights is my pretty collection of precious gemstones belongs to the crowds. My Ruby Vixen is here for your entertainment and enjoyment. All of yours.”

The crowd reacts with a cheer, and I clap and bounce, listening to the crowd going wild, probably loving watching my boobs jiggle. I blow a kiss to the crowd and smile, flipping around to balance my feet on the ring.

“Which is why I have an idea. If you all can show Mr. Asshole at table three in seat two that Ruby Vixen isn’t his damn personal blood donor, then she will give you all a taste of her mouthwatering blood. What do you say? Do you want her to make it rain?”

Shit happens so quickly that I miss seeing the vampires move and go after the asshole Alexander speaks of. A growl, followed by a scream, rips through the air, only to be cut off. Light shines over table three, revealing what happens to those who try to pull bullshit in Alexander’s hotel. And now, the guy who wanted to buy me lies dismembered on the table.

Holy fuck. They really took it far tonight. Usually it’s just a couple stabbings or getting the shit beat out of them.
