That’s only partly true. We have been planning this seize for a while, but Hayley makes us want to fight harder.

Hayley shakes her head. “No. I can’t. I need them. Alexander said—”

“I will deal with him,” Opal snaps.

“Opal—”

Opal covers Hayley’s mouth, cutting off her words. “Hayley, my answer is final.”

Hayley yanks away from her, and I tense. Scrambling back, she closes the space to us, whipping her head back and forth. I expect Opal to react and try to grab her, but she remains firm in her spot, managing to keep her cool with Hayley’s disobedience.

“No,” Hayley says again. “I’m not making them go. Alexander will sell me to the Strip if he thinks I can’t get information from them.”

Knox spins Hayley toward him and kisses her. “You need to stop. We’ll handle it, okay? No more talking. She can’t be involved.”

Opal heaves a few breaths, looking from Hayley and to the rest of us. “I don’t know what kind of bullshit this is, but I’m not going to stand for it. I will handle Alex, and we’re going to get this shit sorted out, okay? Trust me, my gem.”

Hayley remains silent. Shock washes through me. She’s made it obvious in her decision. Hayley’s choosing us. She trusts Opal, but she trusts us more.

Glowering at me, Opal flashes her fangs. “Don’t even consider leaving this hotel with Hayley. Do you understand? You can stay for now, but don’t think for a second I’ll ever let her go. Understand?”

I remain tight-lipped.

Without another word, Opal vanishes, leaving me staring at the open door.

“Call the other crews,” I say to Monroe. “We need to be ready for a war in case.”

I just hope things don’t have to go that far.
