“My sweet psycho. You are a master, aren’t you?” She kisses me with a smile. “Maybe he will spread the word, so you don’t have to be so ruthless.”

I snap my teeth at her. “What’s the fun in that, little bird? How else do I get out all this boiling rage toward more than half of the vampire population? You would think by now they would learn that we aren’t above donors. We used to be one.”

Cooper reaches forward and pushes Hayley’s hair behind her ear. “Except for you. You were born special. Incredible.”

Hayley licks her lips, her cheeks blushing over. I kiss each of them, loving how warm she is compared to me. Just her closeness gets my blood running hot. It helps pump me with adrenaline as we get closer and closer to Esor. They had to have seen this coming. The bastard fucked up. He can’t possibly think that he could get away with infiltrating our hotel and messing with Hayley.

“I think someone tipped them off or they’re being extra cautious. Look ahead. We’re going to have to go around.” Walcott keeps his fingers on the steering wheel, pointing out the new barricades around the rundown, piece of shit hotel. It was a newer one in the back-world, but it just didn’t do well over time with how hard this area was hit during the uprising.

“Damn, look over there. That hotel is also barricaded. Do you think it has to do with the invitation from the leadership?” Cooper leans forward to get a better look.

Hayley shifts in the seat and rests her back to my chest, her body tensing. She peers around the street through the window. “You think? Should we do something like that at the Bella?”

I shake my head and snuggle close to her. “No, we’re good. These bastards don’t have the power to constantly monitor their shit.”

She lifts and drops her shoulders. “It wouldn’t hurt to take extra precautions.”

I press my lips to her ear, making her shiver. “Whatever makes you feel the safest. I’ll build a giant ass wall and moat if that’s what it takes.”

“Now that’s something I want to see. Work those muscles.” She squeals with her words, sinking more against me as Walcott drifts around a corner and heads into an alley that’ll take us around back. We’ll have to jump a couple of fences and shit, but the sunlight guarantees that the section isn’t protected by vampires. No one except for a donor would stand out here in the sun.

Silence fills the car as everyone takes better care to search our surroundings. It’s eerily quiet, proving that either the vampires of the hotel are sleeping, hiding, or doing some nefarious bullshit. Their donor population would also be tucked away at this point. No one will allow their blood sources to risk getting taken.

So I guess it’s time to make some fucking noise. I’m not going to just storm into a hotel I’ve never entered or cased. I have to bring the fuckers to me. I’ll start with tearing down their fence and finding some shadow dwellers to help cause some chaos. And when one of the security guards shows up, I’ll make them a deal they can’t refuse to bring me who I need.

“Park over there.” I motion towards the building where several Strip dwellers hover in the shade created by a small awning. I’d hate to be them right now, because they might be desperate enough to take me up on my offer, and they surely will pay for it.

Walcott does what I command, and we pull up to the curb. I crack the window, blocking the sun with a sun shield.

“Hey, bastards. I have a case of gen. pop blood. I need you to do something for us. It’ll only take a couple of minutes.” I reach to the back, wiggling my hand until Cooper hands me the bag of gen. pop that we always keep in the car. “And if you’re successful, I’ll invite you to stay at the Bella for a bit. Outside of course. Only crew members get access inside, but we’re always looking for vampires to join us. I mean, if you’re good for our cause.”

The three vampires turn my way, narrowing their eyes at the bag in my hand. I prove that I’m serious by pulling out one of the jars and sticking it into the sunlight, burning my hand in the process. It hurts like a bitch, but I don’t complain. I don’t react at all.

“Go on, one of you take it.” I shake it, trying my best to entice them from their shady spot.

The short man on the right pulls his hood tighter, blocking his face. The gen. pop vanishes from my hand as he darts out and back into the shade.

Cracking it open, he gulps it completely. “What do you need us to do? If it’s joining the damn war brewing between your hotel and the leadership, count us out. We don’t need any of that bullshit. We’ll wait until things come crashing down to scavenge.”

I tighten my jaw, seeing just how pathetic these assholes are. No wonder they’re out here and not at one of the hotels. “All I need you to do is to break the fence to Esor and cause some commotion. Get their security running. We will handle it after that.”

The three vampires lean in close, whispering to each other at a pitch I can’t quite make out. One of them disappears from the awning, running away like the weak bastard he is. Now there’s only two guys brave enough to do our task. Is that enough? I guess it will have to be.

“I’ll do it for some fresh blood. How about your donor? I don’t have to bite her. Just refill this fucking glass for me and you’ll have a deal.”

This fucker.

“Deal,” Hayley says, holding her wrist out to me. “I want the bastards to pay.”

Knox and Sawyer will lose their shit over this, especially because it’s against the law to take blood from a pregnant woman, but Hayley is different. She’s stronger. She heals quickly. Hell, she can suck my neck right here and now, ensuring she’s okay. The others won’t even know. She won’t allow them to kick my ass anyway.

I glance at Cooper. “If they ask, you say she demanded to do this.”

Cooper smirks at me, his amusement making me grin right back at him. “What are you talking about? She did demand it. Look at her holding you hostage, forcing her wrist to your fangs and all. You’re defenseless. So weak in comparison.”

I growl and narrow my eyes at him. “Fuck off.”

Hayley grabs my beard, turning my attention back to her. I don’t even get a chance to prepare before she does exactly what Cooper says and shoves her arm right into my mouth, pricking her flesh against my fangs.
