I bite down quickly, trying my best not to hurt her despite how much pressure she forces on me. A soft moan escapes her lips, and Goddamn it. I’m never going to get rid of this boner until something happens with my girl. She just keeps pumping me up. I’m going to have to tuck it into my waistband to keep it in control. Even then, it’s a bit of a chore to do so. I might flash my fucking tip if someone yanks my shirt.

Hopefully, it’s Hayley. I know she’d get a kick out of it. Teasing me a bit. Maybe even get on her knees.

“That’s enough, little bird,” I say using my fingers to stanch the bleeding on her arm. “He will take what we offer. There’s no fucking way he’s taking a whole pint.”

I hold the glass and look at the Strip dwellers. “You can have a taste first. I want to see you prove yourselves. You can have the whole thing and the case as soon as we get over the fence. Govan will stay out here and make sure you follow through. If you don’t, you’re going to get this bottle shoved up your ass. Understand?” I shake another one of the containers. “I don’t have time for bullshit.”

The two vampires look at each other. The man who drank the blood rushes back to me, and I throw him a sun blanket from under the seat. He adjusts it over his head and bends down, lapping his tongue across Hayley’s blood. I take it away before he can try to snatch it and run off.

“Hurry up. Remember, when we get what we need, you can meet us at the Bella. You’ll be welcome there. There might even be another case of blood with your names on it.”

“Make it two. One for each of us,” the other guy says, stepping forward as I offer him a sun blanket as well. It’s probably more than they had in who knows how long. Protection from the sun is hard to come by unless you are part of one of the hotels’ coven or staff members.

I dip my chin. “You got it. Now go. Distract the security. You can handle that, can’t you? They’re only donors. Watch out for the guns.”

The two Strip dwellers vanish, using the sun blankets for protection. Walcott exits the vehicle first and comes around to my side, opening the door for me and Hayley. I pull my hood up and wrap the blanket around Hayley, mostly to keep her out of sight, and I adjust her to cling onto my back, keeping my hands free. Cooper joins us on the sidewalk shifting on his feet, only using his hoodie and keeping his hands in his pockets, more tolerant of the sun because of how he was treated at The Whiskey before we found him.

I hand Govan the glass of Hayley’s blood, and he jets off and follows the Strip dwellers, keeping out of sight but nearby, ensuring that they do as they promised. He’ll let us know when it’s clear and we can hop the fence without having to face the damn security.

It doesn’t take long.

I hear the gunshot before I see any of the donor personnel rushing from their post to confront the two Strip dwellers. They believe they’re safe behind their chain-link fence and barbed wire, but they underestimate what a little blood and shade can buy.

A high-pitched scream rings in my ears, and I peek from beneath the blanket, watching as one of the Strip dwellers bends the fence enough to fit through. For a second, I thought one of the donors had been hurt. That’s one bitch-ass scream for only seeing the vampire break through.

More gunshots pop, and Hayley presses her ear into my neck, covering her other one with her hand to stifle the noise.

“This way. There’s just enough shadow for all of us. We can get a view without being seen on the one janky camera over there.” Walcott points toward an old security cam, blinking from a corner of one of the alcoves with a boarded off door.

He climbs over first and extends his arms out for me to hand Hayley to him. He’s lucky I trust him with my life enough to trust him with my girl for even a second. I could have Cooper go ahead, but then that will leave me open right now. I want Cooper watching my back.

Hayley swings her leg over the fence and hops down, letting Walcott steady her on her feet instead of doing one of her sexy little tricks. I know she can technically land better than any of us can, but I really don’t want her out of reach. I far prefer Walcott take the beating to protect her than risk her being open.

I climb the fence and jump from the top, landing next to her. I don’t give her a chance to prepare and lift her up and flip her over my shoulder once more. Cooper follows behind us, and the four of us head to the alcove to wait.

I don’t know if the Strip dwellers just suck at fighting or what, but it’s taking them a hell of a long time to handle the donor security. They should’ve been able to silence them all by now. I might have to have Govan go in and fix things.

“Shit. One of them has been practicing their mind manipulation. It looks like those assholes have decided to deny our offer for the chance to keep some donors to themselves.” Walcott flicks his hand in the direction of the fence, and I spot both shadow dwellers holding onto some of the donors, drinking from their throats, protected by a pillar of shade.

Govan hopped the fence already, heading in their direction. And shit. He’s going to need backup.

I spot another group of security guards before he does. Charging forward, I zoom toward the vampires and cut them off, getting in their way before they reach Govan. Walcott and Cooper join me just as quickly, and I yank out my blade and throw it, sinking into the throat of the head of security, his uniform proudly declaring his status. Jackass.

Should I be pissed off at the Strip dwellers for taking advantage of the situation? Nah. We still accomplished what we came for, getting someone to come out of the hotel.

“Where is your health keeper? We need to have a fucking word with him.” I grab the front of another guy’s shirt and pick him up off his feet, smashing him into the wall of the tower. “We aren’t going in, so you better call him out here. Don’t do anything stupid or I’ll take your fangs. And then I will take your damn head.”

The security guard growls and manages to break his arm free long enough to grab a blade. He jabs it into my side, winding me as it slices through my flesh. I grunt and swing my fist, punching him hard enough to break one of his fangs, lodging it into my hand.

Hayley hisses, her anger striking me in my core. The little minx launches from my back without thought, jumping at the vampire. I’ve never been so scared and turned on in my life, watching as she lands on top of him and locks her finger around his throat, lifting and smashing his head down in her rage.

“You fucker!” Hayley jams her knees into his gut, pinning him with her dhampir strength.

The guy thrashes and tries to snap his teeth at her.

She smacks him across the face, hissing again, and yells, “Stop fighting!”

The vampire stills beneath her, his body slackening as she captures him with her gaze. And holy fucking hell. I’ve never seen anything like it. Her eyes glow solid silver as she opens the bastard’s mind completely, forcing him to submit to her will like a vampire can do to a donor. She makes him her little bitch, and I couldn’t be prouder. I knew she was a powerful badass. I knew she was fucking amazing. But I could never in a million years realize the extent of her power and what she is capable of.
