“Fine. I’ll do it myself. Go gather the others.” He turns away from Kellan and strides toward the bungalow.

Damn it. Kellan’s plan backfired. I was supposed to have a chance to get to Chase.

“Ravi, wait! Wait, no!” I shout telepathically, struggling to change back into a human.

He glowers as he looks at me.

And then his eyes widen.

A blade flies through the air, hitting the doorframe next to him. Dozens of wolves run from the trees. Sunset Pointe falls under attack.

“Adam, grabChase.Carryhim toward the mountain. Don’t worry about getting him to transform. Just stay hidden. I’ll come for you soon.” I don’t wait to watch Rocco stride from his hiding place. He has been trailing me for a while, and I wanted to make a point that I wasn’t rejected and alone without a pack. He’s kept his distance, just waiting, watching, half-expecting for me to return to him. I know how he is. He would’ve tortured me until I begged him for mercy. And then he would’ve tried to put me in my place instead of killing me, demonstrating that he is merciful as long as you bow and do as you’re told.

But I won’t bow to anyone ever again. The only one I will truly look to follow is Eliana. I’ve made some mistakes. I couldn’t see as clearly as I should’ve. But now that I no longer have the threat of Rocco hanging over me, I feel freer. The true reason why I came to Sunset Pointe wasn’t to make a deal. I would have stayed on these lands regardless. What I came for was to prove myself. I’m not afraid anymore. There’s no alpha that can break me. I’m strategizing how to get Eliana away from Ravi. Because he doesn’t deserve her. The moment he manipulated her by sparing my life was the moment I realized just how beautiful and caring Eliana is. She deserves a man worthy of her affection and sacrifice. She deserves a soulmate that knows how to grow and can adapt to what she needs, no matter the circumstances. And I know I’m capable now.

Ravi snarls with his transformation, abandoning me to charge toward where a couple of members of the Twilight Cove pack rush into the community. The attack happens so fast that none of the Sunset Pointe wolves have a chance to do anything except defend themselves. Ravi left the community open by sending most of the members out.

I stretch my arms over my head and bow forward, letting my wolf break free. Adam runs past and into the small building where Chase remains injured.

“Chase, come the fuck on. I know that you heard me. I need you to find your strength and help me out, doc. We’re under attack.” Adam’s voice echoes through the air. I whip my attention to him and watch him gather Chase into his arms, the man looking more fragile than I’ve ever seen him. He might have the strength of an alpha, but it only can do so much. He’s still new. A pup is what many refer to newly transformed as. And as a pup, he’s not as resilient. It’s hard to say if he will even make it. Alphas might be strong, but it’s an infraborne who can truly take everything thrown at them. We can handle being beat up and broken. Our bones heal faster because of it. It’s one of the only advantages. We are weak yet strong.

“Infraborne, I can’t wait to tear off your fucking balls.” The guttural growl reverberates through my bones as Brent shouts the words in my mind, purposely intruding my thoughts with lashing rage. The betaborne is far worse than Rocco, because he has to prove he is worthy to be second in command. His ruthlessness ignites a blip of fear inside me, but I suppress it. He no longer has the hold he used to on me.

I snap my teeth, my hackles rising on my back. He might be stronger, but I’m more determined. He won’t get within an inch of me. I have no shame in running. And I’m fast. The only thing that matters right now is getting Adam and Chase out of here. I have to do it for Eliana. She’s going to need us. She will have a far worse fight to handle under the alpha trying to claim her from Sea Glimmer. But I know she will be okay. I have faith that the lunar goddess will guide her as she guides me. We will get to her before Ravi since I lied to him, only giving him the pack who took her and not the one who has her now.

“If you submit, I will end your life mercifully. If you run, I will tear you apart piece by piece, starting with your cock.” Brent lunges, trying to snatch my front paw.

I spin and dodge around him, racing toward the side of the building. I have nothing to prove. He can threaten me all he wants. I don’t fear anything he can do to me. He has so little confidence in himself that he puts the weight of his existence on his ability to breed. He thinks that my life would be over if I lost my cock, but I am more than that. That threat doesn’t work on me.

“Brent! Let him go. Take the others down. We need to end the Sunset Pointe territory.” Rocco’s command rings through my mind, his ability to still communicate with me so effortlessly digs under my skin.

Tensing my muscles, I focus on pushing him out of my head. He no longer has control over me. I hate that I have to keep reminding myself of that. An alphas command tends to linger, and there are some pups that can’t resist it at all. They can fight the urge to obey, but it takes time and practice and something life-altering to snap out of it.

My former pack charges through the community, some in wolf form and some in human form. They don’t take the time to hunt the others down. They’re starting with destroying the territory and leaving them with nothing. If there is nothing, then that will weaken them. I should know. I’ve had to be creative with how I survive. I’ve been remaining mostly in my wolf form, but I yearn to be in my human form, especially because I know Eliana is most familiar with that and I want to be how she chooses.

Smoke blooms into the air as one of the structures in the center of the community explodes into a fiery mess. I run forward, heading toward the forest surrounding the cliff side and charge in the direction of the tallest mountain of Shadow Moon. There is a gateway that can lead to several territories. The one we need happens to be an enemy of Twilight Cove, and the perfect place to travel through to get to Sea Glimmer. That’s where Eliana will be. She won’t be there for long if we hurry.

Howls and whistles ring through the air, and I ignore them. Nothing will stop me from getting to Chase and Adam, so we can leave this blasted territory. And if it is in the fates, the goddess will see to it that Ravi can’t follow. Maybe Rocco and Ravi can destroy each other and take care of my problems.

I think a prayer to the moon and hope that the lunar goddess guides me the way she guided me to Eliana. She wouldn’t hand me my soulmate just to take her away.

I must have faith.

The forest darkens the deeper I travel, and I listen for Adam and Chase. I know the two of them have been in this direction. They haven’t learned to hide their trail, not that they would have time. They just needed to get far away at this point.

I’m so focused on the world in front of me but I don’t see the white wolf launching at my side. Ravi crashes into me, sending me rolling off my feet. He didn’t stay behind to fight Rocco. He chose to follow me.

Anger pulses through me in waves, and I snap my teeth, trying to bite him as he flips me over and pins me down.

“This was your doing, reject. After I saved your life and gave Eliana what she wanted, this is how you repay me? I should end you right here.” Ravi releases a guttural sound from his throat, his eyes flashing gold. He slams his paws against me again, trying to wind me, but I’ve already released the air from my lungs. I know how to take a beating, and anything he does won’t affect me.

“Ravi, stop. Don’t do this. We need him.” Adam’s voice rings through the air as he carries Chase’s weight.
