Chase wobbles on his feet, his head lolling. He is awake and manages to keep consciousness. I guess I was wrong. He is more resilient than I thought. Maybe because he hasn’t turned into what this island makes of alphas. Maybe he was a strong human. I don’t know, but I’m glad to see him awake, even if he is barely hanging on.

Ravi removes his weight from me, snapping his teeth once at my face without biting me. “Do not undermine me, Adam. You don’t understand what happened. This infraborne put a target on us. He purposely brought the Twilight Cove pack into our territory. They have taken it over. Do you know how hard it will be to get it back unharmed?” Ravi thinks the words as he transforms back into a man, linking his fingers on the back of his neck. “I’m still figuring out my position as an alpha. You were supposed to stand by my side as my betaborne, and I’m starting to regret ever considering you worthy. You chose a half-dead pup over standing by my side.”

“He is a part of our pack, and I wasn’t going to let him die. He’s my brother. Eliana would never forgive us if we just left him. If you can’t understand that everything I do, I do for her, then you can just fuck off. I will not stand by your side while you make poor decisions for us.” Adam flexes his muscles, his jaw tightening.

I admire his ability to challenge Ravi. I brace myself for the fight to come, but Ravi surprises me and shakes his head, scrubbing his hands over his face.

He turns to me with a scowl. “You better take me to Eliana now. If you take me to her and prove you are truly on my side, then we’ll talk. I damn well know that she’s not in Mistharbor anymore. Do you know where she is?”

I slowly nod my head. “I do. But I’m not going to give you the information yet. You can follow us. Prove that you can be something other than an asshole.”

I stride past him without giving him a second glance, staying firm with my decision. Ravi doesn’t deserve Eliana, but the smarter part of me knows that I might need his help. I can’t just go racing into Sea Glimmer with Adam and Chase. We aren’t strong enough to face such a ruthless pack. But I will never admit to Ravi that we need him.

I close the distance to Adam and Chase and take some of Chase’s weight from Adam. The two of them nod at me, and for the first time in my life, I feel in control. I feel worthy of having such a beautiful soulmate.

“Are you coming or not?” I ask, glaring at Ravi. “You may bring the rest of your pack if you want, but just know that I will not back down. We are getting Eliana and we are ensuring she gets her way. I will not allow you to manipulate her by using me anymore.”

Ravi doesn’t say anything, his body rippling as he transforms back into his hulking white wolf. Tipping his head back, he releases a loud howl and runs past us. He doesn’t agree vocally, but I know that he will give in. He’s not going to have a choice.

Someone will put him in his place, and hopefully it will be me. I am so tired of asshole alphas and how they do things around here.

I’m going to be the change that Shadow Moon needs with Eliana by my side.

I don’t have a choice.

I won’t accept anything else.

“Head toward the gateway,” I think, projecting my voice to Ravi as he disappears into the trees. “I hope you have an alliance with Ice Meadow. We’re going to need to enter their territory.”

I just hope I make it to Eliana in time.

If something happens to her, I will burn this island down.

Even if it takes me with it.

Chapter six

Eliana

Daddy Sid

Isnapmyteethat Sid, trying to bite his leg out from under him. He growls and latches his front legs around me, trying to push me back to the floor.

“Submit, Eliana. Submit and apologize, and I might not kill you.” Sid’s voice stabs into my head, leaving my mind reeling.

A part of me wants to give in to save myself. A much greater part of me wants to bite the rest of his junk off to ensure he can never procreate. The fierce beast in me overpowers my prey instincts, and I wiggle from his hold, shoving my snout beneath his belly to attack him again.

“Sloan! Sloan, get in here,” Sid calls telepathically, his thoughts and pain wide open to me.

The door flings open and the beautiful woman stands in the doorway. Her eyes dart from me to her alpha. I expect her to attack and help him, but she pulls a blade from the bag on her hip. Flinging her arm, she tosses the knife in my direction and it clatters across the floor.

Is that for him or me?

Fuck him. I’m taking it for myself.

“Prove to me that you are my alpha, Sid.” Sloan smirks and rests her shoulder on the doorframe.

As if my very being knows that I have to transform back into a woman, my body contorts and cracks and breaks until I find myself naked on my hands and knees. Sid sinks his teeth into my arm, trying to stop me from grabbing the knife. I scream and push through it, letting the pain kick on my survival mode. I use my other hand to lock my fingers around the hilt, and I jab the knife into his side over and over again. It happens so fast that he doesn’t have a chance to even process what I’ve done. He releases a strange sound and falls to the floor, bleeding out. His body convulses with his transformation, and I start stabbing him all over again. I won’t stop until he’s dead. Until he can never hurt me again or try to claim another poor innocent woman as his omega. His legacy will end here. Defeated by the one he considered beneath him. His life ends with his very own betaborne turning against him instead of standing by his side.
