Eliana straightens her shoulders, her face a series of sharp lines. Rocco doesn’t get within a foot of her. Kellan jumps from the trees in his human form and tackles Rocco. He pins Rocco down and jabs a knife into his side. Rocco twists and alligator rolls, forcing Kellan off him. I expect him to attack Kellan, but instead, Rocco jumps to his feet and darts between two trees, leaving behind a trail of his blood.

Kellan transforms into his wolf and darts after him, leaving me alone with Eliana. She gives me one look before she rushes and jumps at me. I catch her in my arms and hold her close, rushing to move out of sight and under the low branches of a snowy tree, creating something similar to an igloo.

“Davian, fuck. I was so scared for you. I wanted so badly to find you, but things have been complete and utter shit. I was kidnapped. I was given as a prize in a competition.” She nuzzles her cold nose into the crook of my neck, her body shivering. I rub my hand across her back, trying to smooth away the goosebumps the best I can, but I am cold as fuck too.

My heart sinks into my stomach with her words. “I’m so sorry. I’m so, so sorry I failed you.”

“I’m sorry too. I hope you’re okay. I can only imagine what that pack put you through.” Her lips tremble, and I tilt her head and meet her gaze. Leaning forward, she kisses me sensually, lovingly, almost as if she’s afraid that she’ll hurt me. “Let me look at you. Are you hurt?”

She could never though. All I feel with her is an immense amount of sweet relief.

“Just bruised and scratched. I’m okay. I’ve been worse, but there’s no way it was any worse than what you’ve been through. I would face it for the rest of my life to ensure that you never go through what you have again.” Just thinking of all the possible horrible things that happened to Eliana stabs at me deeply. I want to find whoever kidnapped her. I want to know how she ended up here. Was Kellan the one to save her?

I don’t get the chance to ask though. A soft whimper sounds from nearby, and Eliana pulls away from my mouth and darts her gaze behind me.

“Tristan, I’m right here. We’re okay. Kellan stabbed the fucker. He ran.” Eliana’s voice whispers through the air, her warm breath tickling my ear.

Tristan? She found Tristan.

“That just leaves Evander,” she responds out loud to my silent thought.

I rest my head on her shoulder, feeling the tranquility she radiates in this moment. A cool nose touches the back of my leg, and I turn and peer down at Tristan in his wolf form. A smile stretches across my face. I had no idea how happy I’d be to see him too.

“Hey, buddy,” I say, reaching out and scrubbing my fingers between Tristan’s ears as if he’s my damn pet.

He growls and playfully tries to bite me, but he doesn’t sink his teeth into my hand. I chuckle, the situation growing lighter and lighter as I stand with two of the people who have been through hell and back with me. My pack. It’s all I can think about.

More howls catch on the wind, and I groan under my breath. I’m so fucking tired of being chased and being afraid. I haven’t had a chance to truly relax without fear of being beaten or bitten. Being ass fucked and assaulted by some packmate who thinks that the act gives him power over me. Thankfully, it never got to that point. But the threat was always there. They love to keep others down through fear and humiliation.

I shudder, pushing the thought away. It’s over now. I managed to break free, and I’m ready to fight back. I’m not a prisoner any longer. With Eliana and the others, I’m going to be Rocco’s fucking nightmare.

“Come on. We have to move. The rest of Twilight Cove is still out there. We need to lure them to the hillside. Kellan is herding Rocco with Slater.” Tristan’s voice swirls through my mind and he nips at my fingers, trying to pull me with him. Who is Slater? I can’t just blindly follow another pack. Not after everything I’ve been through. The last time I did that with Ravi, I got the shitty end of the stick.

Eliana shakes her head and holds me tighter. “No. This is our chance, Tristan. We can get out of here. We can go find Chase and Adam. We are powerful enough now. We made it through the first full moon, and if we work together, we can make it off the island before the next one.”

Tristan growls under his breath, shifting into his human form. “That’s not safe. You have to trust my pack. You made an agreement with Slater.”

Slater? That must be the alpha that saved me. But as for Tristan calling another group his pack? What the hell is he talking about? We are supposed to be his pack. We made each other a promise. How could that have changed so suddenly?

“Maybe I’ve changed my mind.” Eliana clings to me, ensuring no one can break us apart. “Slater is nice, but—”

“He already considers you his responsibility. He likes you,” Tristan argues, cutting her off. “You know you like him too. I felt it. You kissed him.”

Tensing, Eliana groans. “Kissing means nothing! That’s not a claim and doesn’t mean I have to stay. Shit happens. You damn well know that I can’t control my reactions. It’s this fucking island. These men. It messes with my head.”

Tristan sighs, softening his features. “Please, Eliana. We’ll talk about this. If you go running—”

“You won’t follow, will you?” she asks, her body trembling against me.

“I—please. They’re my pack. He’s my alpha. Things will get better. You just have to give us a chance.” Tristan holds his hand out to Eliana. “Please. Trust me.”

I had no idea that such a declaration could hurt me so deeply. It’s now that I realize why. The pain doesn’t come from me. It is enhanced by Eliana’s emotions. Her devastation courses through me, and my sadness turns into anger. How could he betray us like this? How can he even think that someone else is his pack? I did not suffer through all of this just for him to abandon us. Fuck that.

I reach out and lock my fingers to his neck, yanking him up off his feet with my free arm. Eliana yelps and squeezes her thighs around me, her naked body warm at the apex of her legs. In any other moment, I’d appreciate it. I’m just too angry.

“You have to be fucking kidding me. Don’t you feel what you’re putting her through? She has done so much for us, and you’re breaking her damn heart. I won’t allow it. Even if I have to drag your ass with us. Eliana is our leader. She is our alpha, and no one else can say otherwise. Not you. You made a promise, and like hell will I allow you to break it.” I grind my teeth, animalistic noises coming out despite the fact that I am a man.

Tristan growls right back at me, and I swing my arm and toss him away.
