“Don’t even finish your sentence. Like I said, you need to earn it, you asshole. You have a lot of making up to do. Groveling. You can start with this bullshit. I expect you to get us all through this. Do you understand?” Eliana meets my eyes again, the golden depths of her capturing me like a beautiful sunset. “I’ll give you my attention during your time instead of ignoring you like I had planned to if you can show me that this is more than about being an alpha. Ineedmore from you.”

I rub my lips together and break her gaze, knowing if I stare at her much longer, I’ll give in to everything she asks for. I flick my stare to the rest of my pack standing beside Slater’s as he clomps toward the hillside that will take us into neutral ground where we can access the boats.

I motion for him to lead the way. “I’ll give you everything you need, princess. But you have to do the same for me. Do you understand?”

“I do. Now hurry up. I want to be right in the middle of everyone. I don’t like being last.” She rests her cheek to my shoulder, silencing her thoughts and cutting me off. A blip of her fear rushes through me, and I do as she asks and stride to catch up. Adam and Chase fall by my sides, and we make our way to the hillside that’ll take us down.

Slater leads us to the portal we can easily maneuver through the territories with, and I hum a melody my mother used to sing until the snow turns into vibrant flowers, and we enter the flatlands leading to the docks. Davian and Kellan whisper to each other as Kellan explains how the portals work. Tristan keeps his pace with Slater, peeking at me and Eliana over his shoulder.

“I’ll never comprehend how an island so beautiful could contain such ugliness.” Eliana wiggles in my arms until I unzip her from my jacket. She swivels her torso to peer around. “I wish we could explore without having to worry about being attacked. How do you guys deal with it? Don’t you ever get tired?”

The sweet, naive she-wolf. I don’t think she realizes that we only use the island as a gateway. There’s far more to Shadow Moon than that. Only lykoswulves can even access our world. Why we have the island? For the humans. It’s part of the deal some of the alphas have with the council. Not all of us were granted the power, which is why we rely on attacking and trying to build our packs as much as we can. Assholes like Rocco should not have so much power. He lets it get to his head and causes more harm than good. Sean knew that. If only he didn’t want something I had already planned to claim. I was never destined to be the betaborne he wanted me to be. I was intended to be the alpha. He wouldn’t have given it up otherwise.

I shove the thought of Sean’s death from my mind. I can’t think about him any longer. He could’ve backed down. He should’ve backed down. But I will own up to what I did for Eliana. I hope she knows I will do anything for our pack. For her.

“That is one of the reasons why I tried my best to bite and pass on my pack’s bloodline to all of you. I want a better future. We don’t want to have to fight all the time because someone is unhappy with their territory.” I want to open up to her, but a part of me remains guarded. How much can she possibly understand yet? She hasn’t truly accepted who she is or her place in our pack. She doesn’t understand or accept the dynamics and how we can strengthen our territory. All she sees are things being taken from her instead of given. It’s obvious that she holds a grudge against me, but I would rather her be pissed off and annoyed with me than to write me off altogether because of who I am. I know I’m a dick. But there are far worse men out there. I’ll wear her down. She’ll see.

“You know I’m not going to believe that bullshit, right? You bit them to have something that the others wanted. That’s why you went after me. You just want to breed with me.” Eliana narrows her eyes, keeping her face expressionless.

“That’s only one thing I want, princess. It stirs my desires just thinking about you taking my knot and letting me impregnate you. But you’re forgetting that I want to claim you with my soul. I want your future to be with me.” I smirk with my words, knowing that it gets under her skin. It’s not even because she’s repulsed by the thought. I know she finds me attractive. I’ve heard her arguing with herself over it. It’s the innate, uncontrollable desire of her wolf that will eventually win.

“It’s a little late for that, Ravi. There’s no way your dick is getting anywhere near me. Do you know how weird it is to get stuck to someone? Ask Chase.” Eliana meets my smirk with her own, the bratty woman trying to get to me.

I meet her dare and whistle, waving to Chase. “Hey Chase, come here. Eliana wants me to ask you what it’s like claiming her. Don’t hold anything back. I want to know how you felt engorged in her pussy. If she whimpered when you tried to pull out. If you made sure she was experiencing complete ecstasy and gave in to her nature.”

Eliana groans under her breath, her face flaming red. Swinging her hand, she slaps me in the arm. “You are unbelievable, Ravi. This kind of shit gets you off, doesn’t it? Embarrassing me. Trying to get under my skin. It’s not going to work.”

“But it already has, princess. You are only upset because I know how to play your games. Don’t test me unless you’re ready to go all in. Since you are denying me what I want the most in the world, I’ll live vicariously through those you’ve chosen to stand beside us. I’ll wear you down.” I lean closer, flicking my gaze to her lips, watching as her tongue darts across the seam as she tries to find her words.

She closes the space even more, brushing her lips to mine without kissing me. It takes all my will not to crash my mouth to hers and give her what she teases me with. She’s trying to give herself a reason to push me away. I won’t be the reason, though.

“You can try,” she says, her warm breath tickling my mouth. “You will be sorely disappointed.”

I open my mouth to retort, but a man yells out Eliana’s name. I stiffen, taking a moment to recognize the voice. It’s one of the pups. One of the guys that couldn’t resist the call of his alpha.

And fuck it. He’s on the Blackshell pack. What the fuck are they even doing here? I thought the invitation wasn’t open to all of the packs.

“Evander? Holy shit! Evander!” Eliana thrusts away from me, giving me a split second to catch her and set her on her feet so she doesn’t land on her ass.

A couple of the pack members of Blackshell turn in our direction. Their eyes narrow on her, drinking in the sight of her scrambling to leave me for one of their own. And damn it. I can’t let her get within a foot of them. They will test me as an alpha, and I’ll have to start a fight.

“Evander!” Eliana yells again, spinning away from me.

I clench my fingers into fists. “Eliana, come back here. You cannot just run up to another pack.” I bound forward, catching up. Lock my fingers around her wrist, I stop her from rushing away.

The alpha of Blackshell grabs Evander by the back of his neck and drags him until he falls into the sand. “Van, don’t acknowledge the omega. You know better.”

“You son of a bitch!” Eliana yells, trying to break away from me. She kicks me in the shin and swings her small hand at my dick, missing me to hit my thigh. “Let him go! Don’t hurt him! Evander!”

The alpha of Blackshell glowers at me, threatening me in silence.

“Damn it, Ravi. You have to do something.” Eliana smacks me again, her palm stinging against my pec.

I lock my other hand around her arm and yank her off the ground, dangling her in front of me. “Control your naughty ass. Don’t make me pin you to the sand, princess.” Letting go, I drop her on her feet, getting in her face. I cup her cheeks. “I mean it.”

My dominance over Eliana triggers the pup, and he dodges around his alpha only to have one of his packmates tackle him and shove him to the sand.

“Van, damn it,” the alpha snarls, dragging Evander out from beneath the other man. “You’re—”
