Eliana jerks her gaze from me and to the alpha. She can’t get the thought of Evander from her mind, her fear over him being manhandled muddling her thoughts. It does nothing for the situation as the alpha bares his teeth, his eyes flashing gold.

I crack my neck and roll my shoulders, preparing to face him down on behalf of Eliana. Because she’s not going to give up. She will fight me until she gets away.

Except I don’t have to.

“Isaac, you asshole. Settle down. Your pup doesn’t need to be reprimanded. It’s okay for him to greet Eliana. They have a bond.” Slater strides forward, holding his hand out as he reaches the Blackshell pack.

“Tell that to her alpha, Slater,” the alpha, Isaac, snaps, his voice whipping toward me. “I know what kind of man he is. Evander told me all about him. I’m surprised to see the two of you together. You never mentioned creating another alliance, especially with the likes of Sunset Pointe.”

A growl escapes my mouth, and I tighten my hold on Eliana. That fucker Evander. I have done nothing but try my best to protect him, and this is how he repays me? Talking shit?

Eliana tries to break from my hold again, but I pull her in tighter. I can’t help it. My sudden possessiveness grabs a hold of me, and I want to ensure that no one gets near her.

“Ravi, stop. You’re going to hurt me.” Eliana remains by my side without trying to pull away.

I lock my gaze on hers, my chest heaving, fighting against the emotions crashing from her to me. “I’m sorry, princess. These assholes—”

A shadow flickers in the edge of my vision, and I pick up Eliana in my arms and turn my back on the pack.

A black wolf launches at me and sinks his fangs into my skin.

I roar.

Chapter eighteen

Eliana

Surprise Attack

Iswingmyfistand punch Evander in his snout, forcing him to release Ravi. He yelps and falls back, skidding a few feet as he dodges out of the way. Adam smashes into him in his human form, restraining him.

My heart crashes against my ribcage, and I wiggle in Ravi’s arms until he sets me down. I inspect the bite, pressing my fingers just outside the puncture marks. Anger rushes through me at the sight. I suddenly feel protective over the asshole, and I know it has to do with the fact that I bowed to him as an omega.

“Evander, what the fuck?” I swivel and peer at him over my shoulder.

He barks and growls at Adam until the alpha of his new pack closes the space and locks his fingers around Evander’s snout. They stare at each other until Evander finally transforms back into a man, his naked body now exposed for me to see.

A wave of emotions collides into me, and I’m conflicted between missing him and wanting to punch him in the junk for his uncalled for attack.

“Get him in control or I will,” Ravi says, adjusting his shirt as he straightens his back. “He put my omega at risk.”

“She’s not yours. She’s being influenced by this bond you forced on her. You don’t deserve to have Eliana, and I will fight for her.” Evander bares his teeth, growling as if he remains in his wolf form though he isn’t. Snapping his attention to Adam, he raises his fist, silently threatening him. “You don’t either. You should’ve gotten her out of there. You know what she wanted.”

I sigh and shake my head, shuffling away from Ravi. For once, he doesn’t intervene, but Slater comes toward me, shadowing my every move. I can tell that he and Ravi must’ve had a silent conversation. If Ravi stayed beside me, he might’ve attacked Evander, and he knows that it would upset me.

“Evander, please. I’ve missed you. Are you okay? How is the Blackshell pack?” I try my best to redirect the conversation, because I know anything that I say might just hit the brick wall that Evander keeps around himself. He refused to leave his territory with Tristan, after all. “I’ve been worried. I had no idea where you were, or I would’ve found you sooner...though you seem set with your pack.” There. I said it. I don’t want his alpha to know about Tristan trying to persuade him to leave, but Evander needs to know how his rejection hurt me—controllable or not.

Evander’s face softens. “Eliana...” Before he can say what’s on his mind, I close the space completely and throw my arms around him, snuggling my face to his neck.

Fingers lock onto my sides, tugging me away from Evander. I buck my body in annoyance, but Slater only holds me out like a tantruming two-year-old. It’s enough to get me to calm down and swallow my anger.

“You need to control yourself, pup. I know you have missed the guy, but he is not on one of your alphas’ packs. You could unintentionally start a fight. While I don’t mind, Ravi and Isaac do not have an alliance.” Slater tosses me in the air and spins me around, catching me to slow my fall to set me on my feet in front of him. “You must ask Ravi. I know that it is ultimately your decision, but we have our rules. At least when we are outside of our territory.”

My first instinct is to flick him in his chest and tell him that no one can tell me what to do, but I know better than that. I know how to obey and be a good little girl when it comes to men. I have to be smarter than them. I will twist things to my advantage. I already know that Ravi desires me. I can use that.

I bob my head and look at Ravi. “Why don’t you have an alliance with the Blackshell pack?” Asking him this question is better than automatically pleading with him to let me show Evander my affection.

I swivel on the balls of my feet and turn toward Evander’s new alpha. He stands stiff with his arms over his chest, but he remains expressionless. I can’t read what’s on his mind.
