I nudge my snout at Kellan, getting him to release the dead wolf. He steps back and transforms into a man. Spinning on his feet, he looks toward all the alphas and the pack members that managed to join them.

“The Twilight Cove territory is mine. Those who want to challenge me, step forward and face my wrath. You will be shown no mercy. Things will change on Shadow Moon.” Kellan turns toward the figures standing within shadows on the edge of the clearing. “You will accept me as an alpha, council. I have earned it. I will see my pack thrive.”

One of the figures saunters forward, the robe fluttering with a magical breeze that radiates energy around the council member. Tugging back the hood of her cloak, a woman with white hair nods her head, keeping her mouth a tight line. She closes the space to Kellan and presses her palm to his chest. Light zings from her fingers, shocking over his body and sending his muscles rippling. He remains stiff in posture, his jaw tense, but he doesn’t react.

“This is rather surprising, but we will allow it. You must take an omega to solidify your position. Only then will the Twilight Cove territory be permanently yours. Transforming humans is not enough. We need the power that comes from your offspring. I will give you what you need, but it is up to you to claim it.” The white-haired woman strikes Kellan once more with a blast of energy, throwing him off his feet.

His body contorts as he is forced to transform, and he howls long and loud toward the sky, his body bulking up and his eyes flashing gold with the subtle change to his wolf.

“You have failed me, Chase. It should’ve been you. He will not create an alliance with us after he gets what he wants. He can take Eliana from us now. The council put a task on us. Whoever has the next heir with her will get her permanently. You know they are soulmates. You might’ve just ruined everything.” Ravi stands beside me as a man, crossing his arms over his chest as he watches Davian help Kellan to his feet.

Slater and Tristan hover on the other side, and they both look at us. I don’t know how to respond or if I should.

He sees Kellan as competition. I don’t. I see him as another pack member.

“I ruined nothing. If you are so concerned about claiming Eliana, then you better prove to her that you are worthy. Maybe stop being such a dick. Maybe stop treating her as if she’s beneath you and instead treat her like the alpha she can be.” I stride away from Ravi, not looking back.

I hold out my hand to Kellan. “You deserve this. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”

Kellan nods at me. “I just want to change the world for Eliana. For my soulmate and her children.”

I nod my head. “We will. We’ll do it together. Shadow Moon will be ours.”

Ravi growls under his breath as he strides by and goes to Slater. The two of them have a silent conversation as they watch me and Kellan.

Fucking great. These assholes might be a problem. It doesn’t help that I can feel Eliana’s attraction to them. I just hope she can see everything clearly.

I hope if all else fails, she can put them in their places.

Shewillput them in their places. She will be the reason our species thrives.

Chapter twenty-two

Eliana

Bonding Moment

“We’releavingportandheading back to Shadow Moon. I got word from Ravi that they have things to take care of, and they will soon follow on their own boat. Evander said his alpha has opened Blackshell to us. They will all meet us there.” Adam hovers in the doorway to the captain’s suite. I rest my head on the pillows and stare at the ceiling. I can barely focus. All I want to do is think. Process. Everything that I’ve gone through today... Why can’t I ever catch a fucking break?

“I need to address the Sunset Pointe and Ice Meadow packs. Will you be okay with Evander?” Adam asks, looking over his shoulder as Evander hovers nearby. He still doesn’t look at me, and a part of me hurts on a deep-seated level.

I don’t even know what to say to him anymore. I’m sure he’s been through a lot, and I shouldn’t have expected him to just want to abandon his new pack to join me, but I thought we had something.

Yes, I told him I wanted to remain casual and all, though I thought things changed a bit when we made a promise.

Fuck.

“I can wait out here if you want, Eliana. You can get some rest.” Evander’s voice remains soft, and he shifts on his feet, staring down the short hallway leading to an elevator.

I swallow my nerves and shake my head. “Will you come lay with me? I’d like your company. I mean, if you want to give me it.” It’s the only thing missing. Adam cleaned me up, dressed me in some of the clothes kept on the yacht, and showed me his affection. But I hadn’t realized how much I missed Evander’s too.

Adam nods at Evander and slides past him without another word to me. He gives me a quick look, winking, and it helps suppress my nerves. He knows what I’m feeling toward Evander, but he’s also encouraging me to stay positive. That’s what I love about Adam. He expects the world to be doom and gloom, but he also knows how to look at the bright side of things. It has to do with his upbringing with his father being a doomsday prepper.

Evander clicks the door closed and finally turns his gaze to mine. We stare at each other in silence as if this is the first time we’ve met, and I try my best to smile at him though all I want to do is burst into tears. I sit up more on the pillows and scoot over, making room for him in bed.

He hesitates for only a second before shuffling the distance to me and sitting down on the edge. “Are you sure you want me here? I know you were a bit mad. It’s just...things have changed.”

I release a deep breath with my groan, loosening my muscles as I roll my shoulders. “I’m not mad, Evander. I’m...sad. Hurt. Devastated. I know things have changed. I know we have changed, but it doesn’t make this any easier. I wanted you to be a part of my pack, and it looks like you are content with where you are. Who your alpha is. He tried to stake a claim on me, you know?”
