That’s why he had Adam take Eliana. He wants me to take a territory for my own. He’s out of his fucking mind if he thinks I’m going to allow Eliana to stay with him. I don’t trust him. He might’ve helped us, but he has his own motives. If only I knew exactly what they were.

“You want me to take Twilight Cove? You seriously want me to try to claim an alpha spot over those assholes? I think that’s more suited for you.” My growl reverberates to my very being as I think the words to him.

“It has to be you. My pack will not back you as a new alpha. You’re just a pup. Kellan and Davian are not strong enough either. Trust me. This will be for the best. You’re intended to be an alpha.” Ravi races forward, heading straight through sparkling light. I slow down just enough to let him through first. I don’t know what I’m getting into, I’m not going to just run in blindly.

“I need to talk to them first. I need to talk to Eliana. You should’ve never commanded me to come with you without discussing this.” Anger simmers through me, threatening to explode at any moment. But I can’t treat Ravi like an enemy. I need to save my anger for those who truly deserve it. And right now, Ravi just annoys the shit out of me.

“We didn’t have time. We can’t have somebody else trying to take the position. You can do this. You are strong enough. Trust me.” Ravi cuts me off, herding me toward a clearing where I spot over a dozen wolves fighting.

Bolting ahead, Ravi charges toward the savage fight, his hulking form glittering platinum in the strange light.

And then I see them.

Four shadowy figures stand along the edge of the fight, their hoods pulled over their heads as they stand by and do nothing. They must be the council, the so-called leaders of this island...if it’s truly an island. I can’t tell anymore. There are no maps or anything. At least, not that anyone has shared with me.

“It looks like most of the alphas already backed down and we’re just watching to see who takes control,” Ravi says, barking with his thought to me. “Slater looks to be trying to get them to submit, but it can’t be him. You have to. If he gets Twilight Cove as well, he could take Eliana from us completely.”

What? Is he kidding me? Eliana can’t just be taken. She’s not an object.

I just have to make sure everyone else knows that. It’s the only thing that pushes me into action. I don’t know who the hell Slater is, despite him being Tristan’s new alpha. He hasn’t really said much to me, and I haven’t had a chance to get to know him, but I do know that I’m not going to risk creating an alliance with somebody I don’t know. It’s more out of convenience right now.

“You might have to kill the betaborne. Do you think you can handle that?” Ravi asks, matching my pace to stay close.

“His life is mine.” Kellan thinks the words, his determination coursing through me. “I’m taking Twilight Cove back. I will be the alpha Eliana deserves too. I will prove it.”

Ravi growls and tries to intervene with Kellan, but I shove my body against Ravi and give Kellan a chance to run forward. His disappointment over finding out that Adam and I are the fathers of Eliana’s children pushes him more than ever. He doesn’t want to be the infraborne that Rocco had made him, and I’m not going to get in his way if this is what he wants. What he needs. Eliana would want me to give him the chance and to back him up.

“Chase, catch up with him. You have to take control and prove your worth.” Ravi bounds forward, training his gaze somewhere else in the crowd of wolves. “I will ensure that no one tries to intercept you from another pack. The rest of you help me.”

I rush forward and manage to catch up to Kellan as he crashes into the betaborne of the Twilight Cove pack. The two of them roll across the ground. I launch a few feet and sink my teeth into the back of the betaborne’s neck, dragging him off Kellan before he can overpower him. Growling, the betaborne tries to whip around to attack me, but I hold him still.

“You are dead man, Brent,” Kellan says, his voice snapping through my mind as he speaks to the betaborne. “I’m taking Twilight Cove. I will not let you destroy my bloodline.”

The betaborne, Brent, thrashes and tries to break free, but I overpower him. I drag him onto his back, exposing his belly and forcing him to submit to Kellan. A wolf tries to sneak up and attack Kellan from behind. Davian intercepts and crashes into the wolf, biting his side so hard that blood sprays across the ground. If Kellan didn’t charge forward and sink his teeth into Brent’s stomach, I’d cheer Davian on. He’s finally getting his justice for what he went through.

“You’ll never be a worthy alpha, infraborne. You’ll be the reason why our bloodline dies out. You’re weak. incapable.” Brent’s thought hums through my very being, and I sink my teeth harder into the back of his neck until blood floods my mouth.

“It won’t. I will help him.” I thrash my head, ensuring more pain on Brent. He will pay for everything he has done for his bastard alpha. For those he would hurt in the future. This is for all the humans he has brought to this island and sentenced to death. All the humans he tormented and abused. I will ensure his life ends here. For Eliana. For Davian and Kellan. Tristan, Adam, and Evander. This is for those who didn’t make it.

My need for justice consumes me, and I release Brent only to bite his throat. I want to end his life as much as Kellan does. I didn’t want to be the alpha of Twilight Cove, but it might be the only way for me to get an ounce of control back. But I won’t be giving up Eliana. I will have her.

“Chase, it must be me. I will be alpha.” Kellan growls and snaps at me, trying to get me to release Brent. “Ravi only wanted you to challenge him for alpha because he knew you could never grow a pack. You might be able to breed, but you cannot change humans. It’s his way of keeping you weak but making you feel as if you were strong. You have to trust me. Let me do this.” Kellan’s words whirl through my mind, and I repeat them over and over again, slowly relaxing my jaw.

He’s right. That fucker Ravi. What he said about me being the only one capable was wrong. He’s trying to manipulate us just like he was manipulating Eliana. I can’t let him. I don’t completely trust Kellan, but I know his heart is in the right place. He wants nothing more than to give Eliana what she wants. And I will stand beside him, because I know she’d want me to. She wouldn’t want me to abandon her for another pack as long as she is under the Sunset Pointe name.

“Finish him. Finish him and let’s get this over with. These bastards need to be put into place. We need to change things for the better.” I growl and drop Brent, giving Kellan the chance to take over completely. He needs to do this alone. He needs the satisfaction and the power that comes with taking out the next in line of the Twilight Cove pack.

Silence falls around the clearing, and I realize that the pack alphas who are challenging each other have stopped. They have either been put in their places or they have taken what they wanted. No one in the Twilight Cove pack prepares to go after Kellan either. They realize that this is over.

So does Brent.

His body slackens and a whimper escapes his snout, the pathetic sound like music to my ears. He deserves such an end for all the bad he has done. He deserves to burn in fucking hell alongside Rocco. These monsters will no longer be in charge around here. We will change things.

We have to. It’s the only way for us to ever get the future we want.

“I’m claiming the alpha position. I will not see our bloodline die.” Kellan’s words ring through the air, and one by one, those remaining on the Twilight Cove pack bow to him.

He chomps his teeth into Brent’s neck one more time, ripping at his flesh so hard that blood pours from his beastly body. He slackens completely and gasps one last gurgling breath as he dies under Kellan’s power.
