I close my eyes and imagine how we kissed, and how beautiful she looks before me, soft-featured and feminine, stunning really. I wish I could kiss her now. I wish she would give me the time of day. If I had another week or two with her before the rest of her pack arrived, I could have already claimed her. I know what she wants, and I can give her what she needs. She doesn’t say it, but I can tell she wants a man to take care of her but also one who teaches her how to take care of herself. I can give her that. I can give her everything of her dreams.

Shit. I’m afraid that the council woman ruined it. I know she had good intent, but now we have to fight our monstrous beasts and learn even more control.

My nuts tighten as an orgasm clings to me, and I cum, squirting across the ground. I grunt with pleasure, releasing a breath. I should be more satisfied, but my desire lingers. My need to get Eliana is still all-consuming.

Moaning, Ravi purposely aims at the same spot, splattering his seed all over mine, his attempt at disguising my potent semen hilarious enough to make me chuckle. He lacks the confidence of an alpha that he has to try to dominate me every chance he gets. We both know who the better, stronger alpha is. I don’t live in the icy tundra for nothing.

Ravi growls and glowers at me, still slowly rubbing his cock, his muscles throbbing. He’s daring me to break eye contact first, but I won’t. Watching him fuck himself does nothing to me. I’m far from shy and this kind of pissing match is not a way to get under my skin. I know far too many assholes like Ravi. It’s my lack of reaction that will ultimately get him to back off.

“Do you really want to start something you can’t win, betaborne?” I ask, purposely referring to him by his former power position. “If you feel like you need to keep fucking yourself, be my guest. But I’m going after Eliana.”

“We had a deal. I got her to bow first, so I will impregnate her before you. You’ll see. She was warming up to me. She’ll be bending over in no time. Maybe I’ll let you watch.” Ravi flares his nostrils at me, his words doing something strange. There’s no fucking way I want to watch him claim her, but just the thought of her bending over...damn.

My body’s never going to relax. My hard cock will persist until I get what I want. I can nearly taste Eliana with the thought. Her sugary, vanilla scent unlike anything I have smelled.

“You’ll be the one watching, Ravi. You need a true alpha to show you how it’s done. You are weak enough that one of the pups managed to take what you thought was yours. He will make a fine alpha. Maybe I’ll fight another pack to give him a territory of his own, and we will share Eliana. She doesn’t need you.” I grin with my words, my voice deepening. I know he fears such a thing. It’s why he was quick to relent and form an alliance with me. I didn’t have one with him before, but I did have an understanding with Sean. It’s one of the reasons I didn’t want Eliana to return at all. I think Ravi has far too much wasted potential, because Sean wanted to keep him down like everyone else. That’s where the alphas of the other packs fail. They’re so concerned about keeping everyone beneath them that they fail at letting their pack thrive. I’m not afraid of my betaborne. Hugo has always served me well. He has also helped Tristan find his place. He doesn’t see new pups as a threat. He knows that someone will need to fill his place eventually. He is far older than I am. That’s what being a good pack member entails. I was trained by my former alpha and Mirabel’s mate to fill his place because he saw me as a good fit. And Hugo sees the same in Tristan.

“But my pack needs her. I don’t understand why you can’t just fucking back off. Ice Meadow already has an omega. Let me have mine.” Ravi rolls his shoulders and cracks his neck, his chest puffing as he tries to silently intimidate me. It doesn’t work.

I furrow my brows. “Mirabel is my blood, jackass. Eliana is who I need.”

Ravi can do all the flexing he wants, but he’s trying to intimidate the wrong guy. If he wants a challenge, I’ll give him a fucking challenge. He needs to be put in his place. It’s the only way he’s going to learn how to be a true alpha.

I don’t get a chance. The ground trembles beneath our feet, and I brace myself as magic fogs the air. I swear. The fucking mages are asking for a war. They can try to tame us, but things are changing. I already see it.

“Settle down, Ice Meadow heir. Your grandfather and I had a deal, and you’re not to harm me. Your pack’s secret anthem is, ‘bones of steel and heart of flame, the pack can withstand anything. Ice or fire, earthquake or storm. Power will rise with each one born. Magic binds and the moon bends, so the Ice Meadow pack will rise again.’” I don’t recognize the man’s voice, but I do know the anthem. I’ve heard it a hundred times from my father. I’ve taught it to the pups.

And I don’t believe it. This mage isn’t any regular mage. This man helped my grandfather get Eliana’s grandmother from Shadow Moon. But why is he here?

“Theodore Thackeray.” All I can manage to say is his name, confirming that I do know who he is.

Ravi growls from beside me, and I miss him turning into his wolf. He’s going to assume I’ve been working with mages, which will cause all sorts of problems. Because that’s against pack laws. We already know they’re suppressing us and using us. We’re not to associate with anyone outside the council. It’s one of the reasons I’m in the icy tundra, after all. It’s the only way we can manage to do what we do. Isolation. Having a territory no one wants.

“Traitor,” Ravi thinks to me, his voice stabbing into my mind, sending pain radiating behind my eyes. “You’re a fucking traitor.”

Goddess, damn it.

“Stay the hell back Ravi. You don’t know what you’re talking about and what you’re accusing. I don’t know this mage. He is from my pack’s past. I have not seen him before today. Now don’t question my loyalty to our species. He’s here about Eliana. I know it.” I raise my fist at Ravi, threatening him with a deep, guttural snarl. He’s about to get his wolf ass tackled and pinned beneath me. He’s about to find out what it’s like to submit to a true alpha.

“Enough. We have no time to waste. I wanted to give you the opportunity to take what you feel is rightfully yours.” Theodore summons electricity in his palms and thrusts it at Ravi, caging him in a magical pen. It does nothing to chill him out, and Ravi lunges, shocking himself.

“Are you talking about Eliana?” I already know he is, but I need the confirmation.

If my nuts weren’t aching so badly and my need fogging my brain, I wouldn’t even hear him out. But my mind won’t allow me not to. If he has some way that will convince Eliana to be mine, I will take it. I want her far more badly than I realized before. I need her. I want to have children with her and a thriving future. I want to give her the life she deserves. The life that was torn from her.

“Yes. I can help you get her to bow as your omega, and all you have to do is—” Theodore stumbles forward, getting knocked off his feet and onto his stomach.

Adam growls and sinks his teeth into the mage’s shoulder, pinning him beneath him. I thought he had left with Eliana. But now he’s back. A part of me wants to command him to stop, but Ravi breaks free of his electric pen and charges into me, slamming his thick skull into my ribs. I nearly fly off my feet, and only manage to catch myself by transforming back into my wolf form. The fucker. I should’ve known that the second he had the chance, he would try to challenge me again.

“You will not take Eliana from me. She is mine.” Ravi snarls and sinks his teeth into the side of my throat, sending shooting pain through me.

I roll and thrash, knocking him off me with my sheer strength alone. I’m going to kill the bastard. I can’t trust him. I was doing it for Eliana, because she seems to have some sort of connection to him, but it’s not worth it. She will forgive me. I know she will. Especially because this dickwad started it. She will see that he is a true manipulator and no better than his previous pack alpha.

I launch to get him and slam my paws into his back, forcing him to his stomach. He growls and shakes his head, attempting to throw me off him, but I manage to restrain him like a puppy, holding tightly to the back of his neck. Yanking my head, I drag him a few feet, forcing him over and onto his back. He growls and snaps, rolling until he manages to get to his feet. But I don’t let him get far. I don’t let him try to bite me again either. This is it. This fucker will submit to my strength.

“Submit to me, Ravi. It’s time you learn what a true alpha is and how to be one. Only then will you ever deserve an omega. But never Eliana. You’ve ruined her expectations, and she doesn’t understand what it means to be chosen by someone worthy of her submission. You will pay for that.” I bite harder, pressing my body weight into him. His growls vibrate across my body, and my wolf savors his fight. I yearn to feel him slacken beneath me and to give up his fight more.

“Do it. Submit to me and let me teach you how to be a real lykoswulf, not like the savage beast your alpha tried turning you into. You deserve a better fate and future than the one you’re desperately trying to make.” I transform with my words, squeezing Ravi in his wolf form with my whole body.
