Desmond smiles, forcing his mouth to fight against what he’s truly feeling. I don’t know if it’s because Wilder whispered something to him or what, but he manages to straighten his back some and open his arms for Kinsey. “Thank God you’re okay and safe, Kinsey.”

“Thank God I’m okay? Thank fucking God you’re okay, Desmond. You scared the crap out of me. Come here. I need a kiss. I need to make sure you’re truly safe now.” Kinsey releases my hand and jogs the rest of the way to Desmond. She doesn’t slide her arms around him even though he opens his and instead cups his cheeks and turns his head back and forth, inspecting the bruises on his face. And then she kisses each one of them, nestling her nose to his and sighing against his lips.

A hand touches my shoulder, drawing my attention away from the two of them. Wilder motions for me to join him and Beckett, one of his former schoolmates. Enzo joins the three of us, and Holly stays a couple of feet back, turning her attention toward Beckett’s betas.

“You have our full support,” Beckett says, offering his hand for me to shake. “We have two spare bedrooms if you would like to stay or have Holly and Kinsey stay here for a while.”

The problem with that is we don’t have the same security measures. We would have to trust them on faith alone, and sometimes it’s not always a good thing. Even though Wilder knows Beckett, people do change over the years.

“That is very kind of you, but we would hate to get you involved in our personal matters. However, we appreciate you standing beside us with the conflicts between our territory and Platinum Shores. We will assess the situation and our options and get back to you if we do end up needing to take you up on your offer.” Wilder’s words thankfully align with my silent opinion. And he’s right about bringing them into our personal conflicts. It could end up worse for their pack.

“I understand, friend. Just let us know what you need. We’re here.” Beckett reaches into his pocket and pulls out a set of keys. “Take my SUV. No one will recognize it.”

“Wait, we’re leaving?” Holly might’ve kept her distance, but I should’ve known she’d eavesdrop on the conversation. “I don’t want to go. What if those guys find us?”

Wilder clenches his jaw. “Holly—”

“Perhaps one of us could escort you as backup until we confirm everything is clear?” Beckett remains expressionless but damn it. I think he has a thing for my sister. I don’t think. I know. My first instinct is to swing out and punch him, demanding he keeps his eyes to himself.

But then I see Holly’s hazel gaze light up at the idea.

Kinsey raises an eyebrow from beside Desmond, her look screaming that we better not deny Holly the assurance she obviously gets from a pack outside of us.

Damn. Why can’t I accept that she’s an adult, and something like this could and would eventually happen?

Enzo whacks Beckett on his back. “I think that’s a fantastic idea...I mean, if you don’t mind. I’m sure you know the area better than we do. It’ll give us a chance to pinpoint the Platinum Shores bastards’ location.”

Saved by the charming asshole.

Wilder flares his nostrils, his frown clear in the fact that he was dead-set on denying Beckett’s suggestion, especially because this pulls him deeper into our personal matters.

Holly grins, glancing at Kinsey. “That would make me feel so much better. You all need to focus on Kinsey anyway.”

Her comment gets Wilder to lighten up, smoothing his features out.

It looks like the omegas of the Gilded Sands Pack will forever team up to keep us in line. We’re in for some fucking trouble.

But whatever keeps Kinsey smiling and Holly laughing.

We’ll ensure they get the world and more. Their happiness and safety are what are most important. And it will always be.

Chapter 22

Desmond

Counterattack

“Wehaveavisualon the entire Platinum Shores Pack. They’re crossing into their territory now. It looks like they’re leaving to reconvene. This will give us a moment to breathe and plan our counterattack.” Wilder stands in the doorway of my room, his gaze holding mine. “I want you to stay here with Kinsey. She’s going to take care of you. Enzo and Beckett will be downstairs with Holly. Arsenio and I have to check in with King Winston. We won’t take long.”

I leisurely nod my head and shift on my bed. My side feels a lot better with the pain management Arsenio put in place for me since yesterday’s attack. I was a bit annoyed that my brothers were keeping Kinsey away, using my injury as an excuse because they didn’t think I would rest with her in my presence, but I can’t really blame them. They were absolutely right.

It’s not my fault that Kinsey eases my pain with a simple smile. She makes it easy to forget everything outside of my pounding heart and the wave of desire that emanates from her every time I give her an extra-long look. Every second she’s within a foot of me or my brothers. Every moment of her just being here. It makes her irresistible, and I can’t deny her body’s silent plea for attention. Because as a beta, I can smell the pheromones of both alphas and omegas more intensely, and and she is fucking mouthwatering.

“Keep me in the loop. Are you sure we’re good here with Silverstein?” I ask, sitting up and scooting to the edge of the bed, grinding my teeth as to not show the splitting ache radiating from my side.

“Yeah, you’re good. Enzo’s playing cock-block until we get shit sorted out. I don’t know if you caught on, but Holly is fucking smitten. It’s annoying the shit out of me. Kinsey smacks me every time I even look at them wrong. She threatened my balls if I even considered getting in the middle.” Wilder grumbles with his words, his throaty voice laced with his frustration. He’s not used to being pushed around by anyone other than our father, but especially not a woman like Kinsey.

I wish I could’ve seen it.
