I can’t stop chuckling now.

“She makes a point, brother. We didn’t go through all this shit just to keep her in a bubble for the rest of her life. We agreed that she would get a choice in the matter.” I force myself to my feet, grabbing onto the dresser to steady my legs.

“You’re all ganging up on me now. What happened to making sure our power was set first? That Holly turned twenty-five, at least. Maybe thirty. She’s our little sister and needs the best.” Wilder curls and then uncurls his fingers.

“Don’t be a misogynistic dick. If that were the case, then Enzo would still have a year before he should’ve even considered bonding with Kinsey.” I grin even wider as he narrows his eyes.

“Fuck off. I just want to make sure Holly is safe. That’s what Mom would’ve wanted.” Wilder moves out of my way, stepping into the hallway.

I take advantage of his caution over my injury and smack him upside the head. “We are ensuring she’s safe. The bigger our pack is and the more allies we have, the better. Now go get that shit handled with Dad so we don’t have to think about him for a while.”

Wilder salutes me with one finger and scrubs his fingers through my brown hair instead of retaliating with a punch to the gut like he usually would. “All right, little brother. Don’t do anything stupid while I’m gone. Definitely don’t let Enzo get a moment alone with Kinsey. We won’t see either of them for the rest of the night, and I want to have a family meeting when I return.”

“Now that I can agree on. Kinsey is mine today. I might be fucking sore, but I heard she wanted to play nurse. Gotta give our girl what she wants.” I laugh and follow behind Wilder, heading toward the first floor where voices hum through the air.

“Desmond, what are you doing up? You’re supposed to be resting.” Kinsey’s sweet voice cuts over the gruffness of my other brothers talking to Beckett. “What do you need? I’ll get it for you and take it upstairs.”

Wilder growls under his breath. “Damn it.”

I can’t stop smirking, ignoring his words as he strides past me and motions for Arsenio to follow him to the underground garage. Kinsey rushes to me, blocking my way, so I don’t try to join the others. She places her hands on her hips, her scrunched nose as cute as hell. She looks ready to spank me for even being out of bed, and just the thought sends me craving her closeness. “Are you hungry? Thirsty? How is your pain? Come on, you need to go back upstairs. Arsenio says you need a couple of days of rest.”

Enzo pats his knee. “Baby, give the man a second to respond. If he’s feeling good enough to come downstairs—”

I glower at him, realizing he might be a bit jealous that Kinsey showers me with attention, wanting nothing more than to take care of me. Wilder was right. He’s going to try to seduce her when he gets the chance. And now a part of me is jealous of him too.

So fuck that.

I groan and fake pout, wobbling a bit dramatically just to piss off my brother. “Actually, I only came down because of Wilder. Will you help me back upstairs, Kinsey? I could use some help in my room. I can’t bend down properly to pick up a couple of things I dropped.”

Kinsey smiles at me, keeping her back to Enzo. He scowls, realizing that I can play his games.

“Yes, of course. Let me make you a quick bite to eat, and I can help you with whatever you need.” Kinsey stands on her tiptoes and presses her lips to mine.

“I’m so lucky to have you,” I say, smiling against her mouth.

“Who knew nearly getting shot in the gut would be something that would make me jealous.” Enzo rolls his eyes at me, getting a smack on the arm from Holly.

“Don’t play like that.” Holly flicks him for good measure. “I’m sure Desmond would have gladly traded places with you to not deal with the pain.”

“Seriously. It hurts so bad.” I fake a groan again, fucking with Enzo even more.

But then Kinsey’s grimace makes me feel bad, because her concern glasses her eyes over.

“I’ll be fast.” She jogs away, heading into the kitchen.

I don’t even get a chance to say something to Enzo before she returns, holding a plate with pasta and veggies, one of Enzo’s signature dishes.

“Come on. Let’s get you upstairs.” Kinsey rests her hand on my upper back, stroking between my shoulders.

Her closeness does ease the ache in my side, the gesture of comfort soothing me on a deep-seated level. I never expected to have someone care about me in such a way that I can feel it in my soul. I wasn’t lying about being the luckiest man alive.

I turn and look over my shoulder, grinning like a cocky bastard at Enzo. Holly giggles and smacks him, whispering something I can’t hear. Beckett stares in silence, his curiosity clear on his expression with his furrowed brows.

The second we reach the top floor with my room, stolen from Wilder so I don’t have to share with Arsenio, I snatch the plate from Kinsey, set it on the dresser, and I spin her toward the closed door to pin her to it. I kiss her with enough passion to make her moan. She gets caught in my wave of lust, her thoughts of tending to me vanishing as I rile her up.

I hook my fingers to the hem of her shirt, tugging it over her head, my need growing more intense by the second. She’s the ultimate painkiller for my aches, and I can’t get enough of her. I crave more. Feel starved. Deprived even.

“God, Kinsey. I can’t get enough of you. Just your closeness eases my pain. The agony comes from your absence.” I break from her lips, kissing down her throat. “This is all I need from you. Your body against mine. Your sweet lips. Your—”
