“We’re going to head to the roof. There’s an escape hatch that leads down. I want you to run and hide, okay?” I whisper, pushing her to get her cute ass moving.

She doesn’t respond with her voice, her body turning automatic with her movements. We hit the roof in a matter of seconds, and I jog around the outside, not seeing a vehicle. Where the fuck did they come from? Who are they? My brother said that they had a visual of the Platinum Shores Pack.

I don’t have time to think about it. They could come up here next.

“When we hit the ground, I want you to run left, cut through the yards, and when you reach the end of the block, turn right. You’ll find a trail that’ll wrap around the community. There’s a ditch where you can hide. I need to help Holly and Enzo.” I take the ladder first, climbing down before Kinsey to make sure it’s safe.

Her eyes widen as she peeks over her shoulder at me. “Desmond, watch out!”

Someone yanks me by my shirt and pulls me from the ladder. I hit the grass with a thud, my side exploding in pain.

A man in a mask stands over me, aiming his weapon. “Don’t move. I don’t want to shoot you. I’m here for the omega.”

He takes off the safety, his hand steady. He’s not joking.

“Desmond, listen to him.” Kinsey cries with her words, and I flick my attention, spotting a man climbing down the stairs from above her, aiming a second gun. “I don’t want you to die.”

Scowling, I ignore her pleas. I’m not going to let them take her while I sit here and submit to them because of a damn gun. I’d rather fight.

The man leans forward, closing the space more, growling at me not to move.

I jerk my arm out, trying to grab the gun.

Pain explodes in my skull.

The world turns black.

Chapter 23

Kinsey

Lost

“Stop!Stop!”Iscream, trying to run forward as the man clonks the gun against Desmond’s head, knocking him out.

“Shut up, bitch. Be thankful we can’t kill him.” Two arms encircle me, dragging me back until I hit the hard chest of a beta that smells like body odor and garlic, his breath assaulting me, making my eyes water.

I jerk my head back, hitting the man in the chin. Stomping my bare foot, I try to use my weight to get away from him. He shoves his hands into my back, knocking me forward. His boot connects with my side, winding me. I fall to the grass, struggling to get up. Clawing the ground, I scramble forward, refusing to give up. They just admitted that they couldn’t kill Desmond. With that knowledge, I’ll keep fighting. I won’t let them take me.

“Grab her!” another man yells, his voice shooting fear through my heart.

A hand locks around my ankle, dragging me back. My shirt rolls up and gravel scrapes across my torso. I can’t fight from this position. I can’t find anything to hold onto either.

“No!” I screech, kicking my free leg but only hitting air.

“Tape her mouth. We’re going to draw more attention.” My captor drops my leg, releasing me in the circular drive. A car engine hums as a van barrels through the gate, crunching it under the force.

Rolling over, I kick my leg up, smashing my foot between the legs of another beta. The man yowls in pain, cupping his junk. A shadow falls over me, blocking the sun overhead. I smell the alpha before I get a good look into his dark brown eyes, the only feature showing from his full-faced mask.

I open my mouth to scream, but he slaps his hand across my mouth, silencing me with tape. The shock of his smack sends panic through me, clobbering my will to fight. All I can think about is how this is over. My life is ruined.

The alpha grabs my chin, forcing me to look at him. “Come on, sweetheart. Don’t get all teary-eyed. You’re going to be just fine as long as you stop fighting and be an obedient omega. We’re taking you and the other pretty thing somewhere special. Somewhere you’ll be coveted and appreciated.”

Other pretty thing?

My mind refuses to process what’s happening as the man picks me up and hands me to another man in the back of the van. I spot Holly curled on her side with her mouth taped shut and her arms tied together. Tears streak across her cheeks, her body trembling. Rage clenches my very soul, and I thrash, swinging my hand to smack the beta. I do it over and over again, screaming and fighting as hard as I can. Holly whips her attention to me, my fight returning her hope, and she kicks her leg out, striking the beta in the knee.

I brace for him to attack me. I prepare for the oncoming pain.
