Alexis awoke to the sound of water lapping along the shoreline.

She was warm and comfortable. Sleep tried to tug her back under, but her stomach was growling.

The sensation of hunger roused her enough that she realized Tiago’s strong arms were still wrapped around her.

Opening her eyes fully, she saw the floating silks of the bed canopy and remembered the last few days.

The room showed the impact of their frenzy. The curtains were in tatters, bedding spread all over the floor. The few decorative items Oberon had included in this fantasy of a bedroom were all scattered as though a storm had moved through the room.

She noticed that the tools for the fireplace were knocked down, and had a flash of being on her knees at the hearth, Tiago gripping her hips and screaming with lust.

The chandelier above was sturdy, at least. She knew she had definitely half hung from it, her legs wrapped around his shoulders while he feasted on her between rounds.

How long had they been in this room?

She shook her head and smiled, gazing back at her sleepy mate. Hopefully, when the frenzy was over, they could get back to figuring out how to structure their lives around this mating.

In the meantime, she would just tidy up a little. Dr. Pan was bound to stop by soon, and the state of the room was shocking.

“Please don’t trouble yourself,” Oberon whispered. “I’ll have everything in order as soon as the two of you are up and about.”

“It’s no trouble,” Alexis said, bending to reach for a pillow on the floor.

But something felt different.

She straightened, and her hand went automatically to her stomach.

“Alexis?” Tiago murmured, his voice still thick with sleep.

“Tiago,” she said. “I think… Am I…?”

He sat up in bed and blinked at her. Then he shook his head and looked again.

Her other hand moved to her belly, and she could feel the swell.

Then Tiago was on his knees in front of her, both hands cupping her belly, his lips pressed reverently to her navel.

Deep inside, she felt a gentle movement, as if something tiny had stroked Tiago’s hand from the inside.

“Oh,” Tiago murmured, gazing up at her as if in question.

“I felt it too,” she said, as a happy tear slipped down her cheek.

He practically leapt to his feet, cradling her gently in his arms as he kissed her for all he was worth.

Too shocked to know what to do next, she moved with him toward the bathroom to freshen up. After a few minutes of Tiago fussing over her, she was feeling more like herself. And she swore her belly was even bigger. She knew Maltaffian pregnancies moved fast, sometimes lasting less than a full week, but she hadn’t been ready for this.

“It’s real,” she murmured for the tenth time as Tiago gently washed her hair.

The warm water of the shower felt exquisite against her skin and the slight ache in her back.

“I know this feels good, but are you ready for breakfast?” Tiago asked.

Her stomach growled again, and she laughed.

“I’ll take that as a yes,” he said, a smile in his voice.

She closed her eyes and luxuriated in the feeling of him rinsing her hair and body for her. At last, the water stopped, and he gestured for her to open her arms so that he could dry her off.
