“Romeo?” Logan asked.

“Our old horse back home.”

Logan nodded. “And I’ll cherish this drink bottle.” He waved the empty drink canister in the air.

“You need to put something in it.”

He agreed. “It will be good for my five mile runs.”

“Five miles?” I did a quick calculation in my head. “That’s over eight kilometres.”

“Is it?”

“How often do you do those?”

“Almost every morning. Either that or I surf or go for an ocean swim.”

“You like to stay active.”

“I love it. What about you, Aria?”

I squeezed my unicorn as we made our way to the boardwalk. I liked to stay healthy, but I was no Navy SEAL, that was for sure. “I love walking, actually. Whether I’m exploring a new city or town or hiking in the bush, it doesn’t matter to me. It’s a nice way to see places at a slower pace.”

“You like a slower-paced lifestyle?” Logan asked.

“I’m a country girl. We all like that.” I smirked. “Ironic now I live in the city that never sleeps, right?”

“Do you want to live in New York forever?”

“No,” I said with a shake of my head. “I want to gain experience in both my work and life, save up as much money as I can, then find my own patch of quiet where I can have some animals of my own and run my own animal hospital.”

“That sounds like a great dream.”

I shook my head adamantly. “I don’t look at it as a dream. I look at it as a goal. A goal I fully intend on achieving in the near future.”

“I like how focused you are. It’s something we have in common.”

We spent a little more time walking along the boardwalk before Logan drove me back to my holiday accommodation. We walked up the garden path to the building and stopped at the door. It felt a lot like a proper date.

“Thank you for exploring with me, and thanks for the unicorn.” I hugged the animal to my chest.

“No problem. I had a lot of fun, Aria.” Logan took a small step closer to me. “You know, if you’re not doing anything tomorrow, Liam and Natalie are having a barbecue if you’d like to come.”

“Sure, I’d love to.”Did I sound too eager?I quickly toned down my response and shrugged nonchalantly. “I mean, sure.”

Logan chuckled. “Okay. I’ll see you then.” He leaned towards me but paused. “I, Uh . . ..”

Did he want to kiss me?

To save him any embarrassment, I closed the gap and pecked his cheek. I held my breath as I watched his eyes grow darker. There was no mistaking his attraction for me, and I was feeling the same way towards him.

“See you tomorrow.”

Logan nodded. “See you then.”

I quickly made my way inside before he could see me blushing.

I liked Logan. I liked him a lot. For the first time in a long time, I was content.
