“So, Logan tells us you’re a veterinarian back in Brooklyn,” Jackson said to me as he served himself and his wife some food.

I nodded. “Yeah, I’m a junior practitioner at Brooklyn Animal Hospital. One day, I hope to own my own clinic.”

“Wow, that's wonderful,” Gretchen said. “Where would you set up your own clinic?”

“I haven’t decided, yet. But hopefully, it’s in a place where I can also have my own menagerie of animals.”

“Have you been an animal lover all your life?” Mark asked.

“Yep, pretty much since I was born. Dogs are my favourite, followed closely by horses.”

“You’re okay with all of this, right? I mean, are you vegan or anything?” Liam asked.

I rolled my eyes at him. “You saw me eating and loving a steak the other night. Do you honestly think I’m vegan?”

“Touché,” Liam said with a chuckle.

“So, Logan! What are your intentions with this lovely, clearly intelligent, young veterinarian?” Mark asked.

The woman named Charlie slapped his arm. “Mind your own business.”

“Gee, Twilight, let me get out my crystal ball and see what the future holds,” Logan teased in a goofy voice.

“I’ll tell ya what the future holds,” Mark said.

“Please don’t,” Jackson begged.

Mark glanced at his wife. “Maybe I’m psychic. I knew we would end up together.”

“Oh, please,” Charlie rolled her blue eyes.

“I’d rather not know the future. I’ve always hated spoilers.” I picked up a shrimp skewer and pulled one off with my teeth.

“Me, too. I like the adventure of life and not knowing what’s around the corner.” Logan smiled at me and we shared a small moment.

Thankfully, Natalie was kind enough to change the subject.
