Joe smirked. “Right.” I didn’t miss the way his eyes roamed over Zoey’s body before he turned back to his guard duties.

Clearly, Lily didn’t miss it, either. She grabbed Zoey’s arm with a gasp. “Did you and he ever . . .?” She wiggled her head and made some kind of weird, suggestive noise.

“Yeah. Why do you think I agreed with you about his hotness?” Zoey responded.

“I’m jealous!” Lily said, although, she was also clearly impressed.

While they gushed over the attractive bouncer, Logan naturally entered my mind. I bit my bottom lip in an attempt to keep my emotions in check. There was no way I would ruin Lily’s birthday night by breaking down. Instead, I crowd watched. The strobe light hit a familiar guy who was wandering through the crowd instead of dancing. His lithe body moved like a predator stalking his prey.

“Logan,” I gasped under my breath. I launched to my feet, startling my friends.

“Are you okay, Aria?”

I ignored Lily’s question and pushed past Joe.

Joe was at my side without hesitation. “Miss, are you alright?”

I reached the edge of the dancefloor and tried in vain to spot him. No luck. Maybe I’d been imagining things. Perhaps he was so much on my mind, that I’d conjured up a ghost.

Lily squeezed my arm. “Aria, what’s going on?”

“Nothing. It’s nothing.”

“You look white as a sheet. Come on.” Lily led me back into the booth and sat me down.

Zoey positioned herself on the other side of me and both of my friends smothered me in hugs.

“What happened?” Zoey asked.

“I thought—” I drew in some deep breaths. I glanced at my now-empty drink. I needed something to distract myself. “Who needs a refill? I’ll pay for this round.”

“Yes, thank you, babe,” Zoey said.

“Definitely,” Lily said with a nod.

I dug some money out of my purse. “Joe, do you mind?”

“Not at all.” He went to the bar for us and bought back more vodka drinks. “I thought you might need this, too.” He held a sealed bottle of water out to me.

“Thanks.” I took the water but favoured the alcoholic beverage. I needed to get drunk, not sober up. I lifted the cup to my lips.

That was when I saw him again. So I hadn’t been imagining it.I watched, frozen in place, as he entered a VIP booth next to our own that was filled with smart-looking men in sharp suits. I’d never seen Logan in a suit before. He looked incredible. He sat in a chair and I slowly rose from mine. I peeked over as two women draped themselves over him. Jealousy, anger, and hurt spiked through me. Was this the so-called job Jackson had sent him on? Was this why he couldn’t contact me? Because he was having a good time with random women in nightclubs?

“Is that who I think it is?” Zoey asked.

He heard her. Over all of this noise, he heard Zoey’s question, and his eyes finally locked onto me.

“Holy shit! He’s been in New York all along?” Lily exclaimed.

Logan’s mouth fell open. He was surprised to see me.

“Excuse me,” I grumbled.

“Where are you going?” Lily asked.

“The bar, or maybe the bathroom.”

Zoey glanced down at our barely touched drinks, but asked, “Do you want one of us to come with you?”
