“Like this one?” I shifted closer to him and kissed him for a few wonderful moments.

“Mmm. You’re lucky I’m injured, or I’d have you right now and I wouldn’t care if the entire building heard us,” Logan said in a sexy, gruff voice.

“You’dhaveme, would you?” I teased with a grin.

“You know I would.”

Both of us giggled.

“As it is . . .” Logan pecked my lips, “I’m restricted to this . . .” the length of the peck increased, “. . . for now.” He kissed me deeply, holding me against him with his good arm as his tongue explored my mouth.

After a while of cherishing the feel of him, I broke off the kiss and patted his bare chest. “You need to rest.”

“I’m resting fine.”

“Nuh-uh.” I pushed away from him and settled beside him. “You canhave meall you want once your shoulder is better, I promise.”

Logan laid back against the pillow. “You’re right. Bedtime.”

I switched off the bedside lamp. “Goodnight.”

“Goodnight, Aria.”

The last thing I felt as I fell asleep was Logan’s hand squeezing my own. I slept solidly throughout the night but awoke right at dawn, and with a start, remembering I had to check on my patient.

I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and sat up only to find his side of the bed was empty. My hands curled into fists.

He hadn’t.

Had he?

I heard someone in the bathroom and my pounding heart began to ease. I rushed to the bathroom and burst through the door . . . copping an eyeful of a naked Lily. She spun around in surprise as my grip tightened on the door handle.

I began to hyperventilate and didn’t even bother to apologise for my intrusion as I backed out of the room. My eyes burned with tears which spilled down my face. I raced back to my room, quickly threw on some acceptable clothing, and grabbed my purse. I was vaguely aware of Lily alerting Zoey to my meltdown and as I raced back out of my room, both of my roommates were upon me.

I opened my mouth before they could. “Don’t ask me what’s going on right now, I don’t have time to explain. Could one of you please feed Mama and take her out for her morning walk and potty? I’m not sure how long I’ll be.”

“Aria—”

I cut Zoey off, “Not now, Zoey.”

Zoey held her hands up. “I’m not asking for an explanation. Just take care of him and yourself, okay?”

I paused long enough to nod my thanks to her. Then I took off at the rate of knots.

Harlem didn’t look as scary during the daytime. In fact, it didn’t look all that different from other parts of the city of New York. Brown apartment buildings lined the streets, and people were starting to go about their morning. It was still only early, so I was able to move down the street quite easily. I arrived at the closed doors to the dance club Lily and Zoey had brought me to on Lily’s birthday, hoping against hope that I might be able to find Logan.

The only problem with that was if he was undercover, he wouldn’t be going by his real name. So what was it?

I squeezed my eyes together and thought for a few moments. Something was niggling in the back of my mind, a sliver of a memory. The night of Lily’s birthday, something was said . . .

My eyes snapped open. “That’s it!”

I pounded my fist on the door, but there was no answer. Without knowing where Logan was living, I was at a dead end. He would either take care of himself or he wouldn’t. Considering he was a former SEAL with a job to do and a woman to come home to, I figured he’d do what he could.

But what if it wasn’t enough?

I shook the thought from my head. It was time to get out of Harlem, head back home, and take Mama to her behaviour assessment. I’d let Logan do his job while I did mine.
