“Oh? Do tell.”

I closed the menu and set it back on the table. “My best friend, Louisa, from back home. She’s in London, so we’re having lunch together.”

Augustus leaned back in the chair and folded his arms. “It isn’t paparazzi worthy, is it?”

I rolled my eyes. “No, Aug.”

“Hmm. Well, if you need me, let any of the staff know,” Augustus said as he stood.

“I won’t need you.”

“Here I am.” My blonde best friend dashed across to the table and set her small clutch to the side. “Hi, Sienna.”

“Hey, sweetie.” I got to my feet, and the two of us hugged.

“This place is fancy,” she said, her teal eyes wide as she looked around the restaurant.

“Thank you for saying so.” Augustus gave her a half-bow. “I don’t believe I’ve had the pleasure. My name is Augustus Charles Louis Huntington the Third.”

“Louisa,” Lou answered, taking his hand with the intent to shake it.

Aug bowed his head and kissed her knuckles. “A pleasure. Any friend of Sienna’s is a friend of mine.”

Lou looked suspicious for a second. “Oh, I know who you are. You’re the guy who modeled with her.”

“I am. We’ve stayed friends.”

Friends, was it?I silently seethed. We were more than friends, and he knew it.

“That’s nice. I’m glad you’re settling in more now, Sin. Making friends is important.”

“That it is. I’ll leave you two to it. Enjoy your lunch.” Aug glanced at me. “Remember, anything on the menu is on the house.”

Lou’s eyes went wide. “What?”

Augustus walked away without another word and directed a waiter straight to our table.

“Did he mean that?” Lou asked as we sat down.

“Yeah, he did. Aug owns this hotel, so he makes the rules.”

Lou perused the menu. “Holy moly.Anything?”

“Like he said, anything.” Boy, was I losing patience with that man.

Louisa looked at the waiter. “I’ll have the duck with pears, please.”

I perused the menu again for a few moments. “And I’ll have the roasted cod.”

“Very well, ladies. Any drinks to go with your meals?” the waiter asked as he took our menus.

“Whatever pairs well with our food selection. I’ll leave it in your capable hands.”

Louisa nodded her agreement.

“Very well.” The waiter bowed his head as he backed away from our table.

As soon as we were alone, Louisa leaned forward. “So, what’s the story with Augustus? Are you honestly just friends?”
