I sensed Jeremy behind me, and he opened the door wider. I instantly relaxed with him at my back, exactly like he said he would be.

Then the big giant flew out of the apartment and pinned Augustus up against the opposite wall. “Right, then, now you can get into it with me.”

“But I gave Josh the last piece of cake,” Riva shouted as she launched herself up in the bed and snapped awake. It took a few moments for her to properly come to. Then she joined us—naked—at the door.

Jeremy shook his smaller cousin like a ragdoll. “What the fuck were you thinking, cheating on our woman?”

“I didn’t cheat on our woman!” Augustus replied.

“You could’ve fooled me,” I snapped, folding my arms firmly over my chest.

“You walked in on the situation. You didn’t see it in its entirety. You made an assumption, that’s all,” Augustus snapped back.

“Hey, watch how you speak to Sienna,” Jeremy demanded.

“Let me the fuck go, Jeremy.” Augustus shoved his cousin.

Jeremy dropped him but didn’t step back. “What’s the real story according to you, then?”

“She kissed me. It was completely unexpected.” Augustus cut his hands through the air.

Now it was me who rolled my eyes. “Oh, please… that’s the oldest excuse in the book.”

“Unexpected? Do you honestly think that?” Riva spoke up. “The woman has a big-time crush on you. I generally wouldn’t mind so much if she didn’t have it in for Sienna. Linda is not a team player. She doesn’t suit the little group we’ve been building.”

Augustus let out a wry laugh. “I didn’t do anything.”

Moving Jeremy aside, I went and stood in front of the young viscount. “You have to decide if you honestly want to be a part of my life, Aug. No more back and forth. No more freaking out when I ask for something deeper from you. I won’t allow my feelings to be trampled whenever you get uncomfortable. If you want me, show me, and I’ll be willing to forget this whole thing.”

Augustus stiffened. “I’m not sure if I can do that.”

“Well, that’s up to you. I’m sure you can find your way out.” As I turned my back on him, I was positive I noticed Jeremy smirking. “Merry Christmas,my lord.” The sarcasm was evident in his tone.

We walked back into the apartment and closed the door on his ass.

CHAPTERTHIRTY-THREE

Jeremy was pulling the ham from the oven, and Riva and I were doing our best to make our tiny little coffee table look as festive as possible when there was another knock at the door.

I paused.

After a moment, the knock came again, and I glanced Jeremy’s way. “It couldn’t be Aug again, could it?”

“I doubt it.” Jeremy scoffed. “He’ll be too busy sulking in his grand, empty house. I happened to invite somebody else to our gathering. You should answer it, babe.”

“I’ll gladly get it,” Riva gushed.

I giggled as she bounced over to the door and waited to see who it was. When she opened it, I squealed and dropped the cutlery everywhere.

“Ruben!”I raced to the door and threw myself into Rubie’s arms.

Ruben caught me around the waist and muttered an expletive. “Hi, Sin. I missed you.”

“I missed you, too,” I told him as I smothered his face and lips in kisses. “What are you doing here? You were supposed to have Christmas with your mom.”

Ruben set me down. “Yes, I was. But I got a phone call last night and heard about everything with Augustus. It turns out, I’m needed here.” He punctuated his statement with a lingering kiss which made my heart swell.

I laced my fingers through his. “Come and join us.”
