“Oi, we’re wasting precious light here. Get a move on,” Kai commanded.

“Yes, Kai.” Augustus sent the photographer a lazy salute.

I made sure to be a lot nicer. “Sorry, Kai.”

I sank into the driver’s seat, and my shapely legs hung out the door. Then Augustus leaned against the side of the vehicle. We followed more of Kai’s directions and some of Linda’s for a couple of hours. There were outfit changes and more locations around the park.

Some of the poses were flipping crazy. By the end of it, I felt like a human pretzel.

When they called a wrap, I sighed with relief. “Being a model is hard work.”

Augustus sat on the steps of the gazebo with me. “It was fun, though, wasn’t it?”

I couldn’t hide my smile as he leaned his elbow on the highest step and looked at me with those fun-loving hazel eyes. “It was. Thank you for making the suggestion.”

“They were in a bind. What were we to do?”

We stared at each other for longer than necessary.

“Hey now, where are you two off to?” Augustus swung his finger toward Linda and Kai.

Linda froze mid-step. “Ahh, home? That would be home,” she said quickly.

“Nope. Not acceptable.” Aug got to his feet. “We’ve had an amazing photo shoot with a brand-new model who deserves her first time to be celebrated. What! Were you simply going to say a quick thank you and be on your merry way?”

I shrugged. “I don’t mind,” I said, not wanting to make it a big deal.

He drew me to my feet. “Don’t say such a thing. You deserve more.”

Augustus was such a complicated human being. In one breath, he talked about dismissing those he slept with without a second thought and acted like he didn’t care about people and their feelings. But then, Augustus would go and say something like this. He was the most affectionate man-slut in all of London.

He grabbed my arm.“Aug, what are you doing?” I almost lost my balance as he led me toward the others.

“Drinks at one of my favorite upmarket bars to congratulate ourselves for a job well done. What do you say?”

Linda brushed her hand over her short brown hair. “Well, I suppose I could use a refreshment or two.”

Kai glanced up from where he was squatting and putting his camera back into its bag. “I’m up for it.”

“He’s up for something, all right,” I mumbled under my breath, my thoughts about Augustus again, but from the looks on everyone’s faces, I figured they’d heard me. “I mean, I’d love to go for a drink with you guys. Where are we going?” I said, adding extra pep to my tone to hopefully distract them.

Augustus took my hand and tugged me over to his car as he shouted over his shoulder, “Follow me.”

CHAPTERFIVE

The Blue Bar was in the trendy area of Knightsbridge, and the prices reflected the high-class neighborhood. After perusing the drinks menu, I tried to be subtle about setting it aside and sticking to sparkling water. I could enjoy the company without drinking, especially if I wanted to pay the week’s rent.

Annoyingly, Augustus pounced quicker than an excited puppy. “What are you drinking?”

“Uh… sparkling…” I seemed to have trouble getting the sentence out.

“Champagne. Brilliant idea, Sienna. How does the Dom Perignon sound?”

“No. I meant sparkling water, considering these prices. I mean, I’m by no means broke, and I’m no tight-ass, but these prices are insane, Augustus. No regular person can afford this.”

Augustus snatched the menu from my hand. “I’m not a regular person.”

“I am,” I stated flatly.
