The three of them looked at me like they could hang all of their hopes and dreams on my tiny shoulders.
“Will you do it?” Linda asked.
“Me? I’m not a model.”
“You could be. For today, you could be. Please, Sienna. This is a massive opportunity. Your face will be in global online and print catalogs right alongside Lord Huntington. You’ll be on billboards and in-store signs worldwide. This will look fantastic on your resume.”
My resume was important to me. Linda knew it was, and the idea of me being the poster girl for an entire season of the Estate Styles’women’s line was certainly exciting. When I thought about it, I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. “I’m game.”
Everyone cheered me on.
“Ladies, get busy on Sienna’s hair and makeup. I’m ringing the studio to have them bring over some of the new women’s line.”
There was a huge flurry of activity. I snuck a glance across at Aug. Of course, he caught me and winked. I could barely contain my excitement at this new development.
Once the ladies finished with me,I didn’t recognize myself. My lips were bright red, my eyes appeared bigger, and my hair sat in an elegant chignon against my neck. I noticed a small section was plaited into it, and wisps were artfully placed to frame my diamond-shaped face.
They put me in a surprisingly flattering plaid dress with a red belt cinched at my middle, matching the brown suit Augustus was now wearing. I pushed my shoulders back and walked over to Augustus and his car.
Right now, my confidence was coming back to me quickly.
“Wow.” Augustus claimed my waist and pulled me against him. “You look better than any of those models.”
I felt his hand wandering low on my back. “Now, now, my Lord. Do you even know how to behave?”
“It’ll look good for the camera. Trust me.” He cupped my cheek and leaned in as though he was going to kiss me. But then, at the last moment, he paused and held the pose. I heard the clicking of Kai’s camera and realized Aug was behaving for once. He was in work mode.
“Now look away from her, off to your right.”
Augustus turned his face away from me.
“You look in the same direction, Sienna. Cling to him.”
I stared at a random leaf on the ground and gripped Augustus’ shoulder.
“Beautiful. Absolutely stunning.”
We took a few more photographs with similar poses. Being close to Augustus under the guise of working did nothing to settle my attraction for him. I enjoyed the excuse to touch him all over, to be held by him, and feel his fit, slender body. Aug was fun and utterly gorgeous, but he was not the man for me. I had to stop thinking about all the dirty things I knew he would do to me if I let him.
“Right. Sienna, in the car. Behind the wheel, darling.” Kai’s loud voice cut into my thoughts.
Augustus jumped almost ten feet. “No one gets behind the wheel of this baby but me.”
“Suck it up,princess.This is work, and she’s a beautiful lady. Let her take the driver’s seat.”
There was a collective gasp at the way Kai spoke to Augustus. At first, I thought Augustus was going to fly off the handle, but then he laughed.
“All right, all right. I like the cheeky side of you, Kai. You know that, yes?”
“I hope so.” It was Kai’s turn to wink.
Augustus spun on me and wagged a finger in my face. “You don’t touch anything, all right?”
“Yes, boss,” I said, rolling my eyes at his sensitivity over a silly car.
“I mean it. This car is worth more than you could ever earn in a lifetime. Don’t fuck with it.”
“Only an elitist, rich boy born with a gold-plated spoon in his mouth would say something like that. You don’t know how much I could fucking earn.” I thumped his chest.
