Page 22 of Desiring Them

“Now, usually, I like to organize the event with only the two of us. Too many cooks spoil the broth and all. However, since both Sienna and Riva are trainees, I thought it would be good to get them involved.” Linda glanced my way. “Sienna may not always be available due to other commitments within the company, but I’m positive Riva can pick up the slack.”

“I’m positive I can, too, Linda. You can put your trust in me.” Riva ticked her green eyes toward me. “You know, we ought to spend some time together, Sienna, and get to know each other better. I know I’m much younger than you, and I wouldn’t want to cramp your style, but—”

“No, you’re right. We’re both new to London, and I need to make more social connections. Since we’re going to be working together, I’d like to build a friendship as well as a working relationship with you.”

Her smile was shy, and her body language was an odd combination of confidence tinged with humility. She reminded me of my best friend, which was possibly why I was drawn to her in the first place.

“Take a seat, everyone.” Linda indicated to the chairs in front of her desk and lowered herself into her own. “Now, we need to find a location for the event, as well as models, musical artists, caterers, and a charity willing to take donations from us. Keep in mind it must be a charity we haven’t donated to in the past five years. We don’t want to appear to be favoring one in particular. We also need decorations since it will be Christmas, but nothing too over the top. We need to invite as many big names as possible, and we have to let major media outlets know well ahead of time.”

I looked up from the notes I was taking. “I can approach charities and find musical talent. What kinds of artists do we want?”

Linda folded her hands together. “I want two live acts for this. Someone up-and-coming and looking for exposure. We like to feature lesser-known artists trying to break out. They might be well known on the club and pub circuits, but I don’t want someone who’s broken the big time. It’s another way we like to give back at these galas.”

I jotted some notes down. “Style of music?”

“Any. The fashion show itself will have its own prerecorded music. These artists will be our headline acts and will play before and after the catwalk show has ended.”

“Wow, this sounds like fun. Consider me all over it, Linda.”Me, auditioning musical acts?I was beyond excited. Who knew this job would contain such an awesome task?

“Good.” Linda nodded her head at me.

“Leave the location and caterers to me,” Ramesh said. “I’ll also approach celebrities.”

Linda smiled at Ramesh. “I thought you might like to do those things.”

Riva raised her hand. “May I work with the models?”

“All right, Riva. That means you’ll also be in charge of the catwalk and the outfits. Everything to do with the fashion show.”

Riva squealed and clapped her hands together. “I won’t disappoint you.”

Linda smiled at her before addressing all of us. “Now, I believe that’s everything.”

“Leave it with the girls, Linda.” Ramesh waved his manicured hand at Riva and me. “I’ll have my hands full with the big guns.”

“Too true, Ramesh.” Linda turned to us. “Ladies?”

“We’re on it,” I vowed.

“Excellent. Good meeting. Now, we all have lots of work to do, so off you toddle.” Linda turned to her laptop, dismissing us with ease.

The three of us walked out of her office and into the hallway.

Ramesh brushed past us. “Good luck, ladies. I’m off to call Sir Elton.”

Riva’s eyeballs nearly popped out of her head. “Elton John?”

“Of course. Who else? We’ll reconvene in a few days. Off you go, now.” Ramesh wagged his finger at us.

Riva continued to stare as Ramesh waltzed away. She gripped my arm. “He’s going to invite Sir Elton John. Oh my goodness, this is huge. On second thought, I don’t know if I can do this.”

“Yes, you can. We will do this together. I know it’s nerve-wracking, but if we have each other’s backs, we can make this the best gala yet.” I patted her shoulder comfortingly.

“I quite like your confidence.”

Even though I was as overwhelmed as she was, I grinned big. “Thanks.”

“I suppose I’d better go and call some model reps.”
