Page 51 of Desiring Them

The center of Jeremy’s forehead wrinkled as he frowned. “Hey. Are you all right?”

“Yeah. I need some rest.”But with the way my mind was racing, I wasn’t sure if I could.

“Sleep tight, sugar.”

“You too.” I turned over onto my side and faced away from them.

CHAPTERTHIRTEEN

While I attempted to deal with the fallout from the press junket and attended interview after interview with Lord Huntington, I managed to avoid Jeremy. Linda was livid with Augustus and me and warned us to be on our best behavior for the rest of the autumn campaign. If there were another indiscretion, I would lose my job and end up back in the mailroom at Rawlins Industries.

I met Augustus at our fifth interview, this one withGet Gossmagazine. With my best face on, a pair of black chinos, a powder blue blouse, and bold dangle earrings in gold, I made sure I was going to look good for any photographs they may have wanted to take. He, of course, looked relaxed and totally preppy in tan pants, white sneakers, and a deep red sweater with no undershirt. A Rolex watch sat on his wrist, a subtle indication of his immense wealth.

Not wanting to give the gossip rag any more ammunition than they possibly already had, I resisted my desire to throw myself into Augustus’ arms. But it didn’t stop my appreciative gaze from wandering freely over his sexy, slender body.

When Augustus spotted me, he got to his feet and powered over. When he leaned in to kiss my cheek, I pushed him back, and Augustus frowned at me. I quickly glanced at our interviewer.

He took the hint and stepped back but still pressed his advantage. “You look…”

“Hold that thought.” Head held high, I marched across to the man who would be conducting the interview. “Hi, I’m Sienna Beachley, Lord Huntington’s press tour supervisor.”

The guy shook my hand. “Hi, I’m Major Jones.”

I felt confused. “Oh, are you in the military?”

He chuckled. “No, that’s my name. That’s the beauty of having a dad who loves old war movies and a mum who has a penchant for giving her kids weird names. My brothers are named Sarge, Power, and Gunnar, and my sister’s name is Starr. She’s not a porn star or a stripper.”

“Well, hey, I’m American. We take weird names to a whole other level.”

Major’s dark eyes crinkled at the edges as he laughed. “Right, you get it.”

“Totally.” I clapped my hands together. “So, how do you want to do this?”

“I suppose if I could get a couple of photos first while you’re all fresh, then we can get to the questions afterward.”

“Sure thing.”

Major picked up his digital camera and directed us to a modern, black chaise lounge against a white wall. He instructed Augustus to sit on the chaise, and I leaned my butt against it. I tousled my dark hair, then pushed out my breasts and crossed one leg over the other to show off my blue stilettos.

“Bloody perfect. You’re a natural, Miss Beachley,” Major said as he snapped away on his camera.

Augustus shot me the side-eye. “You see? I told you.”

“Don’t get any ideas,” I snapped. “I amnottaking up modeling.”

“How do you feel about that, Lord Huntington?” Major asked.

Augustus shrugged. “I mean, I don’t half blame her. The modeling industry isn’t as glamorous as people think, and it isn’t for everyone. Sienna is much too good at behind-the-scenes organization, and I believe that’s her passion.”

Major looked at me. “Is he right?”

I stopped gawking at Augustus long enough to respond. “Yeah, spot on.”

Major set his camera aside and pulled up a chair. “You can relax now. I’ve got some good shots.”

I slid down onto the chaise beside Augustus and folded my hands into the safety of my lap. It was important I remained as aloof to him as possible.

“What is your favorite part of the autumn line? Both of you?”
