Page 6 of Desiring Them

“No, they’re not. Not if I have anything to say about it.”

I threw my hands in the air. “I love my job, Aug.”

The corner of his mouth quirked up. “You called me Aug again.”

“Ugh.” I rolled my eyes. “This is all your fault, you know. If you hadn’t been a no-show, Linda would never have sent me to get you, and I wouldn’t be in this mess. Who the hell wants to drive in London? Not me.”

The pudgy man lowered his phone and glowered at me. “The police are on their way along with a tow truck.”

“A tow truck? You can’t tow this car.”

“Well, you won’t be driving far like that, will ya?” He pointed to the front of the BMW.

I cringed at how mangled the hood looked. Who was I kidding? The old guy was right. I wasn’t going anywhere in Linda’s car. I pressed my hands to my head. “I amsogetting fired.”

“Stop saying that.” Augustus sighed.

“I need Ruben.” I was pouting. It wasn’t like me, but nothing was going right this morning, no thanks to Augustus.

“Who’s Ruben?”

I was so mad, his sexy, posh, British voice was beginning to grate on me. “Leave me alone, Augustus.” I went and sat on the edge of the roundabout to sulk amid all the chaos.

CHAPTERTWO

“You are in so much trouble, Sienna.”

I flinched when Linda stormed into the garage where her car had been towed. Thankfully, the driver was kind enough to give Augustus and me a lift to the auto repair shop up the road. It was from there I’d phoned my boss with the news.

“Look at my beautiful car. What the hell were you doing?”

I gulped. I didn’t want to admit to her that I’d allowed Augustus to feel me up while I was driving.Me, with a boyfriend on the other side of the world. Hadn’t I learned anything from my best friend, Lou’s accident?

She had been fooling around with her boyfriend, Harris, when they’d gotten into a horrific accident. She was okay now, but it was like I hadn’t learned anything from seeing her go through trauma.

Linda waved her finger at the front of her car. “There’s five hundred quid worth of damage there. This is coming out of your paycheck, sweetie, guaranteed.”

“What? But that will put a serious dent in my savings.”

Linda tried unsuccessfully to flip her sharply uneven, brown bob. “You should’ve thought of that before you ruined my BMW.”

“I went around the roundabout the wrong way. You shouldn’t have forced me to drive alone. It’s not the easiest thing to switch your brain to drive on the wrong side of the road.”

Linda snatched a clipboard and pen from the mechanic who brought it to her. “Keep arguing. Go on. It’ll do wonders for your resume.”

“All right, hold on a moment.” Augustus stepped forward. “I think I’ve heard enough, Linda. Sienna was put into an unfair situation. I hardly think you ought to be punishing her when she was only trying to run an errand for you.”

“You’re calling yourself an errand, my lord?”

Augustus flashed a fast grin. “Yes. She was doing her best to impress you, as she always does. She’s a hard worker, this young woman, and I think the best course of action here would be to split the cost. What do you think?”

Linda narrowed her almond-shaped eyes at him. “You’re lucky you’re our star guest model, Lord Huntington. If you weren’t…”

“You’d have me by the balls?” Augustus buried his hands into his pockets. “Well then, now I understand the power I have over you. Your autumn line would be nothing without me.”

My mouth dropped open when he drew his gold Barclays credit card from his wallet. “Wait, what are you—”

Augustus held his finger up toward me yet never took his eyes off Linda. “How about I pay for the damages in full and the whole thing goes away? You forgive Sienna and don’t negatively impact her job in any way. Do we have a deal, Ms. Barnes?”
