“She’s in good hands.” Augustus snagged Ruben’s arm and tugged my guy’s hand toward him. “Now, what about you and your hands? What can they do, hmm?”

“I guess you’d have to ask Sienna that.”

“My my, we must work on your confidence, Mr. Ainsley. I’m positive we can help. Care to join us, cousin?”

“As much as I’d like to, it might be a tight squeeze in either of our apartments for us all. They’re no Kensington Palace or anything.”

“You’re right again.”

“Have fun,” Jeremy murmured to me.

“But I thought—” I couldn’t hide my disappointment that I couldn’t be with Jeremy yet again.

“We’ll have our time, don’t you worry.” Then, in a louder voice, he addressed the others, “I’d best get cracking on some work. That crazy band of your brother’s won’t manage itself.”

“I find it funny my big brother still considers himself the next Liam Gallagher.”

“Your brother is in his band?” I gave my head a shake. It was weird how things were coming together.

“He’ll make it big soon. Just you wait and see. Then who’ll be laughing? Catch ya later,” Jeremy said before he disappeared behind his apartment door.

I folded my arms across my chest and glared at Augustus, a little pissed off that he cut into my Jeremy time. “So, what brings you to the commoners’ quarters?”

“I saw the publication.” He held up a copy ofGet Goss, and I shuddered.

“What is this?” Ruben took the magazine from Augustus, looked at the cover, and flipped through to the story. Then, after a few quiet moments, he shouted, “Gold digger? Are they kidding? Do they even know anything about my sweet Sienna? I’m sorry, babe.”

“The article is the reason for Linda’s call this morning,” I explained to Ruben.

“You know we could sue for defamation of character if you like?” Augustus rolled the magazine up in his fist. “You don’t have to take this lying down.”

I sighed. “How exactly would I fight something like that? I can’t afford big, fancy lawyers.”

“I can.”

“You’d help her fight this?” Ruben asked.

“Yes. If you want to sue Major Jones’ ass, I will help,” Augustus offered.

“Good. Considering it was your smartass comment that caused this entire situation, to begin with, you should want to make it right.”

Augustus sighed. “I was trying to help.”

“You achieved exactly the opposite. Well done, Aug. I have to get to work.” I pushed my way between the guys into my apartment.

“But they’ve suspended you.”

I shot Ruben the deadliest of glares, then snatched up my notebook and purse. Pushing past them again, I grumbled to myself about clueless men and headed back out into the city.

CHAPTERTWENTY

Being suspended from work didn’t stop me from working, and I managed to secure the two musical acts for the gala by Thursday night before Linda’s deadlines. So maybe I hadn’t ‘auditioned’ them as I had first wanted to, but I was still confident in my choices. The sweet Welsh pop musician I’d landed was originally from a sheep farm, so no issues there, and considering Jeremy managed Mad Lurchers meant they were good enough for me.

After accomplishing the last thing on my list, I began to feel much better about myself. Plus, working from home also meant spending much more time with Ruben than I would have if I were working my regular hours. Ramesh had contacted me this morning when he’d heard the news and was happily surprised when I produced the names of the two acts to him.

“Girl, sometimes Linda’s moodiness gets in the way of her seeing a good thing when we’ve got it. And you, my darling, have got it. You may be an emotional ball of mess, but damn, can you work your ass off and get great results. Well done.”

I was buoyed by Ramesh’s somewhat backhanded compliment and hoped he would put a good word in for me.
