Jeremy sat down beside me and stretched his arm across the chair behind me.

“What do you think about this chorus, Jer?” Cruz asked as he began strumming his guitar.

“On my knees (on my knees)

I’m on my knees

And I need her

Like I need to breathe

On my knees (on my knees)

And I want her, please.”

“Is it a rock ballad?” I asked.

“Spot on.” Cruz winked at me. “Imagine it with electric guitar and drums and so on.”

I couldn’t exactly picture how it would come together. My brain wasn’t wired like Cruz’s was, but I was captivated.

“It sounds great. With a chorus like that, you could have a hit on your hands,” Jeremy said.

My eyes lit up. “Do you think you could have this ready in time for the gala?”

Cruz sniggered. “Easy.”

“Oh my God, that would mean we’d have an exclusive. Linda willhaveto take me off suspension if we land a band with a brand new single that’s never been played to the public,” I exclaimed, bouncing up and down in my seat.

“Anything for you, strawberry,” Cruz murmured.

I released a slow breath and wanted my body to melt into his.

I loved pet names.

“As much as I’d like to be your advisor on this song, mate, you’ve never asked me for input before, and I wouldn’t know the first thing about composing,” Jeremy said. “You ought to bring the rest of the band in to get the sound right.”

“I agree with him,” I said with a grin as I jabbed a finger toward Jeremy.

Cruz narrowed his eyes suspiciously. “All you want is to meet the rest of the band?”

“Who, in their right mind, wouldn’tjump at the chance to meet a rock band?”

Cruz shook his head at me but laughed, nonetheless.

“I guess this is my cue to go and book up the studio, yeah?” Jeremy got to his feet and pushed his wallet and keys into his pockets.

“Good idea, mate,” Cruz replied distractedly, given he was already typing away on his cell phone.

“Right, then. I’ll leave you to it.” Jeremy leaned down and kissed me. “You keep an eye on him for me, all right?”

“Okay.”

Jeremy walked out of the apartment and closed the door firmly behind him.

Cruz’s phone pinged numerous times. “There we are, then. You will very soon be meeting Tripp, my bassist, Will, my drummer, Henry, my fellow guitarist, and Louis, my incredible French keyboard and piano player.”

I leaned my chin on my fist. “You have a lot of members. How did you guys meet?”
