Page 96 of Desiring Them

“I don’t.” Cruz threw his head back, then glared at his cousin. “Come on, Jeremy, you know the agreement I have with them. I don’t have a choice.”

“Yeah, all right. I guess I’ll attend for the free food and to have your six.” Jeremy ruffled Cruz’s hair, and Cruz slapped him away.

With a giggle, I said, “There, you see? There’s always a silver lining.”

“Let me get changed, and I’ll be right with you,” Jeremy said.

Instead of waiting at the door with Cruz, I walked into Jeremy’s apartment with him. I admired his naked body when he threw his robe off. He was so big all over—big muscles, big hands and feet, tall, not to mention the size of his cock even when it wasn’t hard.

I sat on the arm of the couch while he went to his dresser and pulled out some clothes.

“So, what’s going on with you and Cruz?”

I was a little taken aback. “I don’t know. He was here when I came back, freaking out about the party, so I said I’d go with him. Well, tentatively, anyway.”

Jeremy stepped into a pair of jeans. “He likes you. Do you know how I know?”

“How?”

“Because you’re the first person he’s ever invited to watch him writing music. I’ve even been banned up until now.” He picked up his T-shirt and wandered over to me. He pulled it over his head, then cupped my face in his hands. “There seems to be something about you, people can’t resist.”

I stiffened. “Please don’t feel threatened.”

“No, sweetheart. Not at all. This is the first time in a long time I’ve ever seen Cruz genuinely interested in someone. I don’t mind if it’s with one of the women I love. In fact, if I had to pick between the two for ya, I’d say you ought to pick Cruz over Aug because, frankly, Augustus is a prat. Cruz deserves you much more.”

“If only it were so simple,” I said as I stroked Jeremy’s chest.

“Love can be a bitch, can’t it?”

“Yet we fly toward it like a moth to a flame, and even if our wings don’t burn, we still fall.” As those words tumbled out of my mouth, I realized how true they were.

Jeremy pressed his nose against mine. “The trick is to find somebody who’ll catch you. We’ll do that, sugar. Ruben, Cruz, Riva, and I will. We’ll all catch you when you fall.”

“I’ve fallen,” I whispered.

I was shaking with the power of my love for them. For him. My breath hitched when Jeremy lowered his mouth and brushed his tongue against mine. I slid my hands up and down his solid body as we kissed. I loved how Jeremy felt, how he tasted of tea, and how he smelled of men’s hair product and aftershave. My body craved his, but I needed to resist him.

I slowly broke off the kiss. “Jeremy, I—”

“Are you both coming or not?” Cruz peeked into the room and waved his phone around. “I need to get these lyrics down.”

“On our way,” Jeremy responded. He pecked my mouth once more. “Come on. Mustn’t keep the artist waiting.”

CHAPTERTWENTY-SIX

Cruz’s apartment was a twenty-minute drive from my place in an area called Camden Town. His place was eclectically decorated with books, vinyl records, plants, rock posters, and an orange velvet couch that looked like it had been transported from the sixties. A square card table with mismatched seating served as a dining setting. The place screamed musician. It was a stark contrast to the minimalist, neat-as-a-pin way Jeremy and Augustus kept their places.

“Okay, this place is so cool.”

Cruz didn’t acknowledge the compliment. Instead, he collected a pile of music and notebooks off one end of the couch and dropped them onto the glass and cane coffee table. “Take a seat.” He waved to the empty spot and picked up an acoustic guitar.

He opened a notebook with music paper inside and immediately began writing things down.

I glanced at Jeremy and twisted my mouth up with a frown.

“The master at work,” he explained.

Cruz disappeared, and in his place was a possessed person whose only purpose was to create music. He would strum his guitar, write down a few chords, then hum and mutter to himself while writing more lyrics. Magic surrounded us, and its focal point was Cruz Huntington. I believed in magic and knew it to be real, yet I’d never witnessed anything like this.
