“I know, honey,” Tanner said. “Don’t be angry.”

“Usually, when someone tells someone else not to be angry, they know that the other person is going to be angry no matter what they say. So, just spill it,” she ordered.

“I went down to talk to Claude,” Declan admitted.

“You did what?” Shelby asked. “How could you do that, Declan? I asked you not to go down there.”

“Right, and I asked him to disregard your request and go talk to Claude. He needed to know that what he did wasn’t okay,” Tanner said.

“So, you went down there to beat the crap out of him, right?” Shelby asked. “Is he still alive?”

“I didn’t lay a hand on him,” Declan said.

“You didn’t?” Shelby and Tanner asked in unison. This was the part of the story that he wasn’t sure that he wanted to tell.

“I didn’t,” Declan said. “He’s untouched and still in one piece.”

“Shit,” Tanner grumbled. “I knew that I should have been the one to go down there and handle Claude.”

“Then, Shelby and I would be finding a way to get you out of a French jail cell. Besides, I handled Claude just fine. You might not like the way that I handled it though,” he admitted.

“What did you do?” Shelby asked.

“I’d like to know the answer to that question too,” Tanner asked. “Why am I not going to like how you handled things?”

“Because I just spent a shit ton of our money,” Declan said.

“Shit,” Tanner growled. “You bought the hotel?”

“Actually, I bought two hotels,” Declan admitted. “This one and the one we spoke to Peter about across town.”

“Without talking to me?” Tanner asked.

“Well, we did talk about buying them. We even met with Peter to go over the numbers. You and I both know that we were getting a good deal and well, it buying this place gave me the power to fire Claude,” Declan said.

“You fired him?” Shelby asked.

“Yes,” Declan said. He turned and looked back at Tanner who seemed to be still trying to work through it all. “How mad are you, man?” he asked.

“Pissed that you didn’t bring me in on the call, but I’m good with buying both hotels. I told you that from the start. You were the one who dragged your feet on the deal,” Tanner reminded.

“You bought two hotels just to be able to fire my old boss?” Shelby asked.

“Yep—well, that and to be able to give you the concierge job that you deserve. How about it?” he asked. “You’ll have to stay in Paris for a bit, but we’ll stick around now to keep you company.”

“You’re crazy,” Shelby challenged.

“Maybe,” Declan said. “But if you agree to take the job, it will all be worth it.”

Shelby shook her head and smiled up at him. “Fine,” she agreed, “as long as I get to keep my room and board. I’m addicted to the croissants.”

“Are we good?” Declan asked Tanner.

“We’re good, but we’re also going to have a new rule of not buying hotels behind the other’s back,” Tanner said. “Deal?”

“Deal,” Declan agreed.
