“I did,” he admitted. “She invited me along for the ride, and I have to say, I’m looking forward to a day out in the city. Of course, I had to pretend that I didn’t know very much about Paris, so I’ll have to play dumb tomorrow, but I have a feeling she’s worth a little white lie.”

“I have to agree with you,” Declan said. “I like her.”

“So you said,” Tanner teased. “Well, it will give us something to look forward to. Right now, we have to get through half a day of really boring meetings.”

“You’ll survive,” Declan assured. “Besides, if these three meetings work out, we’ll be well on our way to starting our own boutique hotel and expanding our business.”

“Right, and if this falls through, I say we stay in Paris anyway, and have some fun with Shelby,” Tanner said.

“Do you ever think about anything except sex?” Declan asked.

Tanner feigned hurt, “You say that as if it’s a bad thing, man. You were the one who told me to get an invite to your date tomorrow. Are you having second thoughts?”

“No,” Declan said. “I think that she’ll go for both of us pursuing her. I’m just hoping that you don’t go and fuck this all up for us by asking her to prematurely jump into bed with us.”

“Define prematurely,” Tanner insisted.

“Let’s just get through the actual date portion of the day before you beg her to come back to one of our rooms,” Declan said.

“You really are no fun anymore, Dec,” Tanner accused.

“I’m fun,” Declan said. “I just know when to act like an adult and when to have fun, unlike some people in this room.” Tanner grabbed his jacket and followed Declan out into the hallway.

“You’re an ass, you do know that, right?” Tanner asked.

“Shut the fuck up, man,” Declan said. Shelby stepped out from one of the guest rooms, still wearing her not-so-sexy rubber, yellow, cleaning gloves, and cleared her throat.

“Are you two sure that you’re friends?” she asked. “Because every time I’ve seen the both of you together, you’re either engaging in a fistfight or calling each other bad names.” Even in her made uniform and rubber gloves, she was Tanner’s walking wet dream. He had always had a thing for southern girls and Shelby sure fit the bill.

“We’re friends,” Declan growled. “Although, I’m not sure why sometimes.”

Shelby smiled and nodded. “Did Tanner tell you that I invited him to see Paris with us?” she asked.

“Yeah, he told me,” Declan said.

“And you’re okay with me asking him to come along?” she asked.

“I am,” he said. Tanner was about to point out that it was Declan’s idea when he remembered that he was supposed to keep his big mouth shut about their little plan to a double date with Shelby. She didn’t seem like the type of woman who’d jump into bed with the both of them, but they had to persuade women before, and together, he and Declan could be very convincing.

“Good,” Shelby said. “Now you’ll have two novice explorers to show around this town that you claim to know so well.” Declan chuckled and Tanner felt about ready to elbow him in the gut. He had told Shelby that he wasn’t familiar with Paris in order to get his invite. If Declan gave away that he had been lying to her, she might rescind her offer, and then he’d be stuck at the hotel sulking about missing out on the prettiest woman he’d seen in a damn long time.

“Right, well, I’m looking forward to showing you both around Paris,” Declan covered. Tanner breathed out the sigh that he’d been holding, and Declan looked at him and had the nerve to wink—actually wink at him. God, he wanted to punch his best friend in his fucking face, but that wasn’t something he’d do in front of Shelby. She was right, all they seemed to do around her was fight, and if this plan Declan had come up with was going to work, they had to get along.
