Lincoln

Lincoln West pushed the button to call his private elevator back up to his penthouse. He was late for the meeting with his new security firm and if this morning’s events were any indication, he needed all the help he could get to secure his home.

The break-in wasn’t just unexpected it was deemed downright impossible by his current—well, former security firm. As soon as the cops showed up to take his statement, he called his office and got the name of the security firm his business partner, Ethan Jacobs, used for his home. They were targets and it wasn’t a matter of if someone else would break back into his penthouse but when. Ethan set up the meeting with Blue Security Firm at their office and promised to meet him there.

Ethan was his rock and Linc wasn’t sure what he would do without the guy. Besides being his business partner, Ethan was his best friend but if he was being completely truthful, Linc wanted so much more from him. That was something he had always kept to himself though, too afraid to tell Ethan his feelings only to be rejected and lose everything.

Ethan was waiting for Linc in the parking garage when he pulled in. He parked his Mercedes G class next to Ethan’s Audi S8 and smirked over at his friend. They had many heated debates over who had the better ride. The difference was that Linc usually opted to drive himself while Ethan had to have his pampered ass driven around by a chauffeur. Linc jumped out of his SUV and slammed his door shut, making sure he locked the car up behind him. He wouldn’t be taking any chances now that he came face to face with the barrel of a gun. When you stare down your mortality, your whole perspective changes.

“No driver tonight? You roughing it, Ethan?” Linc teased. His best friend laughed and pulled him in for a quick side hug.

“I didn’t think I’d need a driver but then your weak ass security measures failed and well, here we are,” Ethan teased. “You good man?” he asked. Linc wanted to tell him that he wasn’t good. That waking up in the middle of the night to find someone standing over his fucking bed with a gun pointed at his head wasn’t his idea of good. Ethan must have seen his answer in his expression, and he frowned. “That bad?” he asked.

“Yeah,” Linc breathed. “I’ll tell you about it when we get inside. It’s not a story I want to tell more than I have to. Thanks for meeting me here, man, and for setting up this meeting.” Ethan wrapped his arm around Linc’s shoulder and gave him a playful shake.

“That’s what best friends are for, Linc. You call me and I make arrangements. Besides, I think you’re going to like Ella,” Ethan said. His best friend was always trying to fix him up with women and men, for that matter. Ethan knew that Linc was bisexual, and he never made Linc feel that he couldn’t be himself around him.

“Ella?” Linc questioned. Although he had a sneaky feeling he wasn’t going to like Ethan’s answer. “Who’s Ella?”

“She’s the head of the new security firm you’re about to hire,” Ethan said. He held the elevator door for Linc to get in and for just a minute, he thought about running the fuck out of there because this whole thing felt like a setup. Ethan chuckled and slapped Linc on the back. “Just keep an open mind man—she owns one of the top security firms in Atlanta and you’ll be lucky if she takes you on.”

“Wait—I thought you said she outfitted your security at your place,” Linc said. Ethan pushed the button to take them to the top floor of the building where their offices were located.

“I did,” Ethan said, not giving much more detail.

“Shit, Ethan,” Linc grumbled. “Tell me you didn’t sleep with her already.”

“No, not that she hasn’t tried to get into my pants. I haven’t slept with her yet—I thought we could make her an offer she won’t be able to pass up—two for the price of one.” Linc looked over at his friend and Ethan pretended to be interested in the passing numbers that flashed across the top of the elevator doors as they climbed to the top floor.

“Two for the price of one—what the hell does that mean?” Linc asked. The elevator doors opened, and Ethan stepped out looking back over his shoulder to where Linc stood frozen in place.

“It means just what you think it does, Linc. Time to stop pretending and take what we both want, babe.”
