“Head down,” she murmured, washing out the shampoo, her fingers working their magic until all the tiny hairs all over his body stood on end, even under the hot water. “Head back,” she said, wiping water away from his face so he could see the pout of her lips. “Feel good?”

He answered by grabbing hold of her waist to yank her to him, licking and sucking on the rivulets of water flowing down her stomach. When he latched his lips on to one of her nipples, she moaned, the sound reverberating around them. He was obsessed with how sensitive her breasts were, and he alternated toying and nipping at each one until she had to put her hand on the wall next to Mike’s head to steady herself.

“Turn around,” he said, helping her onto his lap, spreading her legs wide, settling them over his thighs. With the streams of water falling on top of her, he eased his hand to her center, spreading her open with his fingers, and she dropped her head back on his shoulder. He kissed her ear, whispering how this was his favorite thing, touching her, feeling her desire for him, knowing how bad she wanted it, how he wanted to hear her. Louder. Longer. Give it up.

His chest rose and fell in time with hers as he kept one hand on her breast and the other between her legs, and with her ass pressing back against his cock, writhing over him, he couldn’t help but be as worked up as she was, their slippery skin making everything too easy, too good. As soon as she climaxed, her moans filling the shower stall, she slipped off to the floor of the shower to put her mouth on him. Then he was the one panting and moaning. This beautiful woman was everything he ever wanted.

And later, after they had dried off and fell into bed, with his arm around her as she slept, he had to take a calming breath, a minute to slow down. He didn’t know what would happen after this trip, but for the next few days, he had her on an island in the sun.

The rain didn’t stop. It kept coming down. All through the morning, which Sam and Mike spent in bed, and continuing during the “welcome lunch” that included Bronte’s parents, siblings, and brood of nieces and nephews. Some of Chris’s friends were there too, a handful of people he worked with, but everyone together was barely two dozen people. It was intimate and fun—and completely waterlogged.

“I bought three new bikinis,” Laney said, holding up her margarita in a toast to the sky.

“Put ’em on, babe,” Bobby said. “Whether it’s the ocean or the rain, you’ll still get wet, right?”

Laney eyed Gem, who got up from her chair, ready for anything. But before either Laney or Gem could race out into the rain, Jason caught his wife around the waist. “Not in the thunderstorm.”

She blew a raspberry at him. “You ruin all my fun.”

“You’ll have no fun if you’re struck by lightning.” He kissed her temple, placing her cocktail in her hand.

“I see what you’re doing. Trying to get me liquored up so I won’t say no when you bring up a baby again.”

Sam thumped her own glass down on the table. “Huh?”

Bronte suddenly perked up from where she had her head on Chris’s shoulder. “What did you say?”

Gem slugged down some of her drink, already half in the bag as Jason gazed down at her like a lion sunning himself. “You heard me. He wants another kid. I came here to fu—”

At the happy shriek of Bronte’s niece a few feet away, Gem lowered her voice and inclined her head toward the table, raising her eyebrows at the girls. “This Boy Scout thought he could convince me to have another kid with multiple orgasms last night.”

Chris clapped his hand on the arm of his chair in laughter. “Did it work?”

Jason grinned down at Gem, who rolled her eyes. “I guess we’ll find out next month.”

Sam put her chin in her hands. “But you had Willow, like, yesterday.”

“That’s what I said!” Gem jerked her thumb at Jason. “And what’d you say? That you wanted enough for a basketball team?”

“That’s right. Five little starters.”

“Good god, why?” Bobby grimaced, earning an elbow from Laney.

Jason took a sip of his ice water before setting it down extra carefully. “Because I love my wife, and my daughter is so perfect I can’t wait to make more.”

Bobby ran his hand down Laney’s head, pulling her toward him. “Me and this joey got a lot more exploring to do. Eh, babe?”

Laney pressed her lips into a tight smile, her eyes down on the table. “Not too much more.”

He pressed his thumb and index finger together. “A bit. Before we settle down.”

“I think we’re pretty settled,” she said, trying and failing at a lighthearted laugh that was so high-pitched no one could believe that it was real, but Bobby merely shrugged, his gaze out on the rain.

Sam wiggled in her seat, uncomfortable with the friction building at the table, and a big hand landed on her back. She peeked over to Mike and his silent question but couldn’t answer now. She couldn’t say how she felt bad for her friend, who had been up and down with her boyfriend lately, but also that she’d begun to consider what settling down meant for herself.

This summer had her considering lots of things she never had before, and the muscles in her back coiled at the mere thought of leaving Mike in a few weeks—days, really.
