When she offered him a small smile, he skimmed his palm down her spine, leaning forward to kiss her cheek.

“Well, I can’t wait to have babies with bunny,” Chris said, squeezing Bronte as he tipped his chin to where Jason and Gem sat. “Give you two a run for your money.”

“Bunny,” Sam repeated in the mock scornful way she always did whenever Chris called Bronte that. Except underneath the table, she kicked at Bronte’s foot, pointedly shifting her eyes toward Laney, calling attention to how their friend had her arms crossed, her body slanted away from Bobby.

Bronte nodded in understanding then slid her arm from around Chris. “How about we leave these boys for a bit and have some girl time?

“Yes. Let’s get day drunk,” Gem said.

“You boys up for some poker?” Chris asked, to which all the guys agreed with shrugs.

“All right, then.” Sam patted Mike’s shoulder, pointing at Chris with her other hand. “Watch out for that one. He uses his acting technique to bluff his way through the game.”

Chris leaned back in his chair, chuckling good-naturedly. “You’re mad because you have absolutely no poker face. Terrible liar.”

Sam waited for her friends to come to her defense, but no one disagreed. Not even Mike. He only wrapped his fingers around her thigh as she stood up next to him with a dramatic flourish. “Sorry, peaches, but your face gives everything away.”

“Peaches!” Laney crowed.

Bronte lifted her orange cocktail from the table. “We’re putting that at the top of our agenda to discuss.”

Mike raised his brow in question to the men at the table, and Sam tried to pretend she was equally as confused, but the two gossipy bastards opposite her laughed.

“Sam makes fun of Bronte and me because I call her pet names,” Chris said.

“She hates pet names,” Jason added then extended his hand out to Mike. “Except from you, apparently.”

Mike swiped his palm over his mouth, hiding a growing smile. “Does that mean we have an agenda for discussion too? Are these posted somewhere? Girls’ and guys’ discussion guides?”

That earned some laughs from everyone, and Laney pointed at him while saying to Sam, “I really like that one.”

“What about me?” Bobby asked, playfully kissing the back of Laney’s hand, but she brushed him off.

“Maybe I’ll like you later.”

“Don’t drink too much so I can remind you why you like me in your bed,” Bobby said, chuckling, although no one else did.

Gem curled her lip, surely some snarky comment on the tip of her tongue, but Jason stood with a barely audible, “Don’t, Gemma,” and kissed her on the mouth before sending her off with a pat on her back. “Have fun, ladies.”

“So, poker?” Chris said with a resounding clap. “Let me go find some cards,” he said, his voice fading as the girls walked toward Bronte’s suite.

Once there, they ordered more drinks, settled on the bed, and started in on their agenda.

“Okay, so can I just say Bobby is very handsome and charismatic andthat accent… But, like… What’s with the jokes?” Gem said, her palms up toward the ceiling. “Unless he’s talking about food, he’s not funny.”

Laney held up her drink as if it were a stop sign. “I know. It’s like he has to be the center of attention all the time. We’re working on it, but I don’t want to get into that right now. Besides, that’s not on the agenda.” She whipped her head to Sam. “Let’s get right down to it, peaches. What do you have to say for yourself?”

Bronte sat cross-legged, her eyes bright and a little drunk. “Yeah, you conveniently left out basically every detail at my bachelorette.”

“There aren’t any details, really.”

“He called you ‘peaches,’” Gem said. “Peaches! Is it ’cause of your ass? I bet it is. How do you get a bubble butt like that?”

Laney stood up, checking out her own butt. “I know, right? Mine is flat and wide. No matter how many squats I do, it’s al—”

Bronte snapped her fingers. “Hey, we’re getting off topic. We’re talking about Sam and Mike. We can circle back to butt workouts after.”

“Sorry, Miss Hollinger,” Gem mumbled, and Laney bowed to Sam.
