Wait…no. There was no way he was going to let Austin or Garrett know what he was doing. He’d never hear the end of it.

So, yeah. Amy. Amy would hopefully stay with Cash so Savannah wouldn’t have to rush home and then they’d have all night together.

He thought of her comment over dinner.

What if things get weird between us and then we’re stuck hanging out until I leave?

That was something they never really went back to, and he had to wonder just what exactly her plans were for the future. Was she going to go all the way back to Seattle? Would she want to stay here? Logically, it was too soon to ask her to make that decision. There were far too many other things that needed to be dealt with between now and then.

And maybe he was getting ahead of himself as well. After all, this was new and already happening fast. Why couldn’t he just live in the moment and enjoy it?

Closing his eyes, he could clearly see her face and wished he could reach out and touch it.

He’d lived the last ten years of his life being totally regimented and basically always knowing what was going to happen. Going back to civilian life meant that things were now out of his control. It was going to be an adjustment, for sure.

He just hoped that he could handle it because it felt like he was already being tested from every damn angle.

And for a man who had faced deployments and combat, all of this should seem like a piece of cake.

Maybe he was getting soft because it felt like anything but.
