Late the next day, Savannah walked out of her bedroom and froze.

“Amy? What are you doing here? Is everything okay?”

Smiling, the nurse put her satchel down on a kitchen chair. “Everything is fine. I’m here to hang out with Cash and the gang tonight. I heard you had a big date!”

“Um…” Glancing at Cash, she seriously considered strangling him because he was turning into the world’s biggest gossip! “I didn’t realize he had asked you to come over. I thought Austin and Mia were going to stop by and…”

“They are,” Cash chimed in from his recliner. “But Amy’s here so you don’t have to rush home tonight.”

Oh, how she wished the floor would open up and swallow her right now…

Blushing, she looked away.

Leaning in close, Amy winked. “Don’t worry. Everything is under control here and I think it’s very important for you to have a night…away.”

Oh God…

“I’m not…I mean…that wasn’t what was happening tonight,” she stammered.

All the nurse did was smile.

Moving past her, Savannah walked over and glared down at Cash. “Seriously? What has gotten into you? Do I go around talking about all your personal stuff?”

He shrugged. “My life’s boring. I’m sure if something exciting happened, you’d tell people.”

“Me going out with Jackson is not exciting news for the masses!” she hissed. “And I resent that you felt the need to ask Amy to stay the night because…well…because…”

“Because you’re going to spend the night with Jackson?” he finished for her. “I hate to break it to you, but I wasn’t the one who asked her to stay.”

That…didn’t make sense.

“Then who did?”

“My son,” he replied. “So if you want to get all righteous and snarky with someone, take it up with him.” Pausing, he grinned. “But make sure he takes you out for a nice dinner first. You both deserve it.”

Closing her eyes, she silently counted to ten. “I cannot believe this is happening.”

Looking up at her, he crooked a finger to indicate she needed to come closer. Crouching down beside him, she asked, “What?”

“I know you’re going to turn twenty-seven shades of red, but hear me out.”

That was never a good intro to a topic.

“You and I both know that it has easily been three years since you’ve gone out with a guy. And I don’t even want to know how long it’s been since you’ve…you know…slept with…”

“LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA-LA…”she sang out with her fingers in her ears.

Cash smacked her hands down. “Don’t be a child, Savi. You know what I’m saying. This is me talking to you as a friend. Go out tonight and for a few hours, forget about our crappy lives and all the sadness and disappointment and just enjoy yourself. Be carefree and embrace life.”

She almost said a prayer of thanks that he said nothing more regarding sex.

“But make sure you and Jackson practice safe sex,” he said, just before she could truly relax. “No one needs the added pressure of an unplanned pregnancy.”

“Cash…” she groaned before kissing his cheek. “I’m leaving before you say anything else that makes me want to stab pointy things in my own ears.”

He shrugged. “Just trying to be…you know…helpful.”
