“Do you remember how it felt last night every time one of us got to the brink and had to stop?”

He nodded.

“Let’s make up for that right now.” She nipped at his jaw. “Just to take the edge off. Please.”

Sitting straight up, Jackson peeled his shirt up and over his head and it felt like the temperature in the room went up about ten degrees.

Next came his belt and he whipped that off in a way that made her weak.

He jumped off the bed and stripped down to his boxers, but before he could crawl back in beside her, she was up on her knees and kissing him again. Jackson’s hands went right to the hem of her dress and slowly began bunching it up. Cool air hit her bottom and as much as she hated to stop kissing him, she simply reared back and lifted her arms so he could finish peeling the dress off of her.

She wasn’t shy about being there with him in nothing more than a pair of panties—she had forgone the bra just because of the style of the dress. Normally she went with a strapless one, but for tonight it seemed silly to bother with one.

“You’re even more beautiful than I imagined,” he said reverently, as his hand reached up and cupped her breasts. “And believe me, I imagined you a lot.”

Her head slowly fell back as he teased her nipples and when he leaned forward and captured one with his mouth, she cried out at the exquisite feeling.

She panted his name as she held him to her, and it felt good to be so bold.

Slowly, he lowered them both to the mattress and this time when he settled between her legs, she knew it wasn’t going to end until they were both breathless and very satisfied.

“Does this bother you?”

Savannah looked down as Jackson’s hand gently caressed her transplant scar. It actually felt a little weird, but she was too relaxed to worry about it.

“Not really. Although you don’t have to do that. I know it’s kind of…you know…ugly to look at, so…” She went to reach for the sheet to cover herself, but he stopped her.

“Don’t,” he said quietly. “Don’t cover yourself. I think you’re beautiful and this scar? That’s why you’re here today, so I don’t think it’s ugly. I think it’s amazing.”

Tears stung her eyes and for some stupid reason, it made her think about her ex-husband and how repulsed he was by all of her treatments, the way her skin had bruised and the smaller, less invasive scars. And then there was Jackson, who was not only looking at but touching the scar that even she had trouble looking at; he was completely unfazed by it.

One strong hand came up and brushed away her tears. “Don’t cry,” he whispered. “I didn’t mean to upset you.”

Shaking her head, she looked at him. “You didn’t. I’m just…I’m overwhelmed by you. You’re not like any man I’ve ever known in my entire life and part of me is so grateful for that and the other part is afraid that this is all too good to be true and you’re going to realize how flawed I am and walk away.”

Wow…that was way more than she planned on sharing…

That same hand that brushed away her tears now cupped her cheek. “I’m not going anywhere. This is just the beginning. And not just tonight, Savannah. I can’t explain it, but I was drawn to you from the moment I saw you swaying and bopping happily in the booth at Donovan’s. I saw the smile on your face and the joy that was radiating off of you and I knew I had to meet you. And since that day, you’re all I’ve thought about.”

Sighing, she nodded as more tears, embarrassingly, fell. “I felt the same about you. But then you were so mad at me and everything got weird fast and…”

“Shh…don’t. I’m sorry for the way I reacted, but I was genuinely in shock. You can ask my brothers; I’m typically the one who says shit without thinking and then usually figures out that I’m wrong.” He shrugged and gave her a small smile. “Some find it charming.”

And that made her laugh. “I’m not sure I’d call it charming, but…I understand how you felt. I know I was in shock when I realized who you were and did my own form of freaking out.”

It was his turn to nod. “Okay, so then we both got that out of our systems and can move forward now, right?”

To distract her, he placed a kiss on her cheek.

“Because…I know what we just did was meant to take the edge off after last night, but…” Another kiss. “I think we’re going to need to do that several times to make up for the last week.”

Turning her head, she met his gaze. “We need to make up for the last week?”

“Definitely.” His voice was a near growl as he moved down to kiss along the line of her jaw, her throat, and then back to her breasts. “After kissing you on the beach…well…you don’t even want to know what I was imagining.”

She smiled as she arched her back. “I think you’d be surprised because I was thinking some pretty naughty stuff too.”
