“Oh yeah. You heard all about Austin and Mia’s wedding and how we all banded together to make it work after that blizzard had them canceling everything. Honestly, I think that was the best wedding I’ve ever been to. I mean, all of my cousins have had great weddings, but the fact that we all contributed so much to pull it all together for the two of them just made it more special.”

“What did you contribute?”

“My presence,” he said with a wink.

“Wow.”

“I wasn’t supposed to be home, so I was able to surprise Austin—and everyone. Hell, I was just glad to be there. I missed out on a lot of family celebrations in the last ten years or so, but now I’m really glad to be back.”

And he realized it was true. A month ago, he was almost bitter about being home and his military career being over, but now he was finding more and more to embrace about civilian life.

The drive back to Laurel Bay only took fifteen minutes and when he parked in front of the apartment complex, he realized they’d never really confirmed that this was what she wanted to do.

“Savannah, um…I know I mentioned us coming here, but if that’s not what you want, I can take you home.”

The look she gave him told him she was ready to argue or tell him how this wasn’t the best idea, and his heart sank.

“I have three requests,” she said quietly.

“O-kay…”

“One, we don’t talk about Cash.”

That was a no-brainer. “Done.”

“Two, we don’t talk about the future—not even next week.”

Okay, that one was going to be a bit harder to deal with, but…

“Done.”

“Good.”

“And the third?”

“We share those cupcakes equally. You don’t get to hog them all.”

Leaning in, he kissed her soundly. “Deal. Now let’s go.”

Savannah grabbed the cupcakes and he grabbed the champagne and they took their time climbing the stairs to the third floor. Once inside the apartment, they put their things down on the kitchen island and she was the one to take his hand and lead him to the bedroom.

He loved when she took the lead and was more than happy to stand where he was until she told him exactly what she wanted.

“You looked very handsome today,” she said, smoothing her hands up over his vest. “I was thoroughly impressed.”

“Thank you,” he gruffly replied. “And did I tell you how beautiful you looked? That dress was…perfect.” And it was. A strapless, seafoam green sheath that hit just above the knee. It was the perfect combination of beachy and sexy, and he was dying to know what she had on underneath.

“You did tell me,” she said huskily as her hands continued to wander a bit before she began unbuttoning his vest. “Parker took me shopping yesterday during lunch because I had no idea what to wear. There’s a cute little boutique just a few doors down from the spa and I think I dropped my entire paycheck on some pretty and lacy things.”

“Lacy, huh?”

“Mm-hmm…and these shoes.” She struck a pose and he had to admit, the strappy sandals with the ridiculously high heels were sexy as hell. It was kind of mind-boggling that she could actually walk on them. “They’re completely impractical, and walking on the grass today almost killed me, but they were worth it.”

“I’ll say…”

She peeled his vest off and immediately went to work on his shirt. Once that was undone, Savannah leaned in and kissed her way across his chest before working her way down.

Hell…yeah…
