Grayson stared into my eyes. He held my gaze for a while. His blue grey eyes were piercing right through my soul.

“Fine.” He stepped back. “But if you aren’t careful, Ethan, you will be left with nothing and no one in your corner because you would have driven them all away.”

Grayson stepped away and looked to his sister.

“Do you need a ride home?”

“I will take her,” I answered before she could. What was I doing?

Grayson turned to me, confused.

“She’s my new neighbor. It makes sense if I drop her off. Your house is the other side of town anyway.”

“You moved into his neighborhood? How can you even afford to live there?”

“I found a roommate.” Lily grabbed her handbag from the desk and then turned to me. “I’m ready when you are, Ethan.”

“Looks like it’s time to go, Grayson.” This time, I managed to side-step him. “I will see you around.”

As far as first days go, I think that Lily handled everything seamlessly. Me, on the other hand, I was ready for a stiff drink and the fattiest food in town.
