“I meant every word, Maddison. I know I have been a class A asshole to you lately, and I’m sorry. I just want you to know that I am in this with you 100%. I don’t want you to even doubt where I stand for a second.”

He spoke with so much conviction it was hard not to believe him.

“I believe you, Marcus.” I placed my hand on top of the one that was cradling my cheek. “Looks like we are married now.”

“How does it feel being Mrs. Anderson? You know, it is a great honor. Many women have tried to earn the title before.”

I rolled my eyes. “I am eternally grateful.”

“You should be,” he teased, “but you do make a beautiful bride, Maddie. I like that you kept your hair natural for once. You should wear it like that more often.”

I smiled. I had thought of his comment that one day when I decided on how I wanted to look for my big day. I had wanted to catch his eye, and I would say that I had been successful.

A heavy silence fell over us again. I didn’t know where to look because I feared if I looked him dead in the eye he would see everything that was written on my face.

I wanted to keep these feelings to myself.

Marcus forced me to look at him. “Get out of your head. I am here. You are here. Let’s just be, Maddie, just for once. Let’s get lost in each other. Forget the boundaries and forget the logic. Let’s just feel that today.

From now until next Monday, it will just be the two of us. I know it’s crazy and dangerous but for once in my life, I want to try something reckless.”

I thought about what he had said. I wanted to. I wanted to forget everything and throw caution to the wind. I wanted to push off the shoreline and venture into the deep blue.

And so I did.

I threw my arms around his neck and kissed him like I would never get to do it again. I knew that this would only be fleeting and like one of those whirlwind romances, but I would take whatever he could give me even if it were only pieces of him.
