Chapter 11 - Danny: Wedding Bells

I stood at the entrance of the barn ushering all the guests inside. This wedding had been two years in the making. Now it was finally here. Grayson and Jade were one of those endgame kinds of couples. Even though distance and time had separated them, they still managed to find each other. It was a love story that you often heard about in books and movies,

Grayson, Ethan, and Marcus walked to the entrance of the barn. They looked handsome in their tailored suits. For the first time, Grayson actually looked nervous.

“You look handsome, gentlemen. Are we ready?”

“I’ve been ready for two years.” Grayson rubbed his hands together blowing out a nervous breath.

Just as he said that Lily and two other women I had literally met a few days ago walked out. They were Jade’s friends from New York. Francesca and Amy were both gorgeous women who looked like they belonged on the cover of Vogue.

Jade had made sure that every single one of her bridesmaids' styles were showcased in the dresses they wore. The color scheme had been kept simple: black, ivory white, and red. A classic and elegant combination.

Jade was still hidden in the house awaiting her big reveal. I lived for days like this. Weddings were beautiful things that deserved to be celebrated.

“You look so sexy,” Lily gushed as she approached her boyfriend. She kissed him on the lips and pulled back. I hadn’t known what Maddy meant by fuck-me eyes but, now that I saw it in Lily’s eyes, I fully understood. She then turned to me and smirked. “I see you have been Maddy-fied.”

I rolled my eyes. “She said I needed to wear this dress, and I told her that there was no need but she insisted.”

“Well, you look hot,” she smiled.

I was wearing a deep red sweetheart neckline dress that was tight at the bodice and flowed straight down to my feet. There was a slit that traveled all the way up my leg and ended at my thigh. I wore black stiletto heels, and my makeup had been done by the makeup artist Maddy had flown in.

It was nice having a rich friend. I sometimes got to enjoy her spoils from time to time.

“Thank you.” I looked at the ratio of bridesmaids to groomsmen, and I saw that we had one fewer groomsman. “What are we going to do about the groomsmen? It looks like Fran won’t have a partner to walk with down the aisle.”

“No, I will. I think he should be coming just now.”

I was confused but then I saw Gavin walk up to us in a tailored suit that fit his body to perfection. I had to close my mouth to keep from catching bugs. I knew this man was fine but seeing him in a suit just drove my hormones off the charts. I wondered if it would be too much to ask for him to always wear a suit while he worked.

His black hair was gelled back. He looked like he belonged on a TV screen or something. He was gorgeous, and I wasn’t the only one who noticed. I saw the way Fran’s eyes twinkled as she followed him. This wave of green jealousy fell on me, and I had to remind myself to keep the scowl off my face.

“And there he is.” Francesca smiled at Gavin. “Thanks for being the stand-in for Ben.”

I looked at Grayson, confused. Who was Ben? And why was Gavin being forced to stand in for him?

“Ben, my friend from college, couldn’t make it. His wife went into labor last night, so I needed Gavin to fill in for me. Jade didn’t want to ruin the aesthetics.”

“Oh, okay.” My verbal response probably seemed nonchalant but internally, I was simmering with a toxic concoction of anger and jealousy.

When I turned to look at Gavin, he was staring at me with a smile on his face.

“You look beautiful, Dan.” He didn’t try to hide the fact that he was eyeing me up and down. My blood heated from his gaze, and I wanted nothing more than to steal him away from this place and have my way with him.

Okay. Woah. Where did that come from?I needed to relax. There would be none of that here.

His compliment did a lot for my self-esteem but nothing for my jealousy, as Fran stepped up next to him. She threaded her arm through his and smiled up at him. I didn’t miss the flirty little laugh she did even though no one said anything funny. Would it be childish if I tripped her before she walked down the aisle?

“You look handsome, Gavin. You just might steal the show from Grayson.”

Gray rolled his eyes. “The only eyes that I want to capture are my wife’s. Now time to get me married, ladies and gentlemen.”

Everyone got into position and waited at the barn doors. I signaled the string quartet to begin their song. Everyone in the barn turned to the doors and waited for the bridal team to make its way down the aisle.

First were Francesca and Gavin.

“Down, tiger,” Lily whispered to me from her spot. “I can feel the jealously radiating off of you in waves. And by the way, you don’t need to be jealous of her. She has nothing on you. Besides, Gavin’s eyes have solely been on you, and I think you even know that.”
