I didn’t reply. I just watched them walk down the aisle together arm in arm. After they were at the end, it was now Marcus and Amy’s turn.

From where I stood, I could see Maddy glaring at Amy with her swollen belly. Marcus sent her a kiss which she responded to by pulling the middle finger but there was a smile on her face so I knew she wasn’t serious. Their dynamic was so unique but it worked for them. These two were made for each other, it was adorable.

Marcus and Amy made their way down the aisle leaving Ethan and Lily.

“He can’t keep his eyes off of you,” she whispered to me and gestured to the front of the barn. Standing in his place was Gavin who had his eyes not on the two people walking down the aisle but on me. His gaze was soft and tender but there was an intensity to it that had my heart pounding in my chest. Even without even touching I could feel the electricity surging between us.

A small smile pulled onto my lips as I looked away. My cheeks were heated, and I was sure I was red. I prayed that the makeup did its job and covered my flustered face well.

Then it was Lily and Ethan’s turn.

“Hey, Lily.” Ethan looked at his girlfriend.

“Yeah?”

“Marry me yet?”

She smiled and shook her head, “not yet.”

He didn’t even look upset. He just smiled and kissed her on the forehead. Then they started making their way down the aisle leaving a very nervous-looking Grayson.

I looked at him and placed a hand on his shoulder, “you guys were made for each other, you know that?”

“I know.” He smiled knowingly. “Even when I pushed her away and tried to deny our pull. I knew I was a goner the moment I laid eyes on her again. Life has a funny way of bringing people back together when you least expect it.”

My eyes found Gavin, and he was looking at Axel who was bouncing in my mother’s lap. He had a smile on his lips, and a warmth in his eyes that I only ever saw directed to me and now my son.

Even as I stared at him, I felt peace. I felt this blanket of warmth overcome me, and I felt like I was home. I didn’t know how else to explain it but just peace.

“Yeah, I think you’re right,” I said wistfully, my mind flooding with all these emotions.

Then it was Grayson’s turn to walk down the aisle.

After the bridal team was done, it was time for the bride to finally make her appearance. The house door opened and out walked Jade looking like the most gorgeous bride I had ever seen. She was stunning in every sense of the word.

She walked down the porch steps with Grayson’s dad, arm in arm. She looked nervous, but the joy in her eyes was unmistakable.

When they got to the barn door, she was smiling.

“You look gorgeous.”

“Thank you,” she breathed. “Time to finally get married.”

“I mean, you did make him wait long enough.”

Grayson’s father chuckled. “Taught that boy a thing or two about patience, for sure. Now, let’s officially welcome you into the family the right way.”

The fatherly pride in his eyes was unmistakable. He loved Jade like a daughter and seeing as Jade had hit the shit pot, when it came to family, Grayson’s family was a welcomed addition to her life.

I signaled for the quartet to begin playing the song, and everyone rose to their feet.

Jade walked into the barn, stealing the spotlight. She was a gorgeous bride, and I knew that she would make an amazing wife and mother one day. There was a light in which she carried that not many in this world carried.

She was light and beauty and today, it shined more than ever.

The ceremony was beautiful and filled with so much happiness and joy. I didn’t know Grayson very well, but Riverroad was a small town, and everyone kind of knew everyone. So I had a good idea of his personality. I would never describe him as someone who was overly emotional or heartfelt. He was often calloused and cold, but Jade brought out a new side to him.

A warmer side. A more human side.
