I ran a frustrated hand through my hair.
“Dammit, Tatiana,” I cursed, standing to my full height. I needed to get myself together before entering the house. Danny would pick up on my mood shift, and I couldn’t be destabilized when she needed me to be stable.
I heard their laughter on the inside and I was reminded of what was on the outside of that room and what awaited. Danny. She was finally happy, and I knew that, after this dinner, it would only be short-lived because we still had to handle Arthur. I was then reminded of the promise I had made her about escaping this place for a while.
It was time I called in my favor.
I pulled out my phone and dialed his number, hoping the idiot was not asleep or worse—out with a woman.
“What do you need, mother fucker?” Callum answered on the first ring.
“Hello to you, too.”
“Hi. Now, what do you need from me?”
“I need you to help me with something. I need to come back to LA just for a little while, but I need somewhere a little secluded, so I was wondering if we could use your house in Malibu?”
“Did you say we?”
“Yeah. Me, my girlfriend, and her son.”
He was silent for a moment. “Your what?”
“My girlfriend.”
“When did you get one of those? You told me that you had sworn off women. What changed?”
“Ha ha,” I gave him a deadpanned tone. “I’m serious, man. I really need your help with this one. She needs to get away for a little bit. I want to show her a good time and just allow her to destress away from all the current drama in her life.”
“Okay,” he said easily. “I need to meet her, though. You can’t just bring her to Cali and then hide her from me. I want to know who in their right mind decided to connect themselves to you.”
“Wow, I can feel the love,” I said flatly. “Can you help me or not? And remember who saved your ass on multiple occasions in bar fights.”
I could practically hear his eyes rolling through the phone. “You will never let me live that one down will you?”
“Nope, going to be using it till I’m in my grave and maybe even beyond that. Now, can you help me or not?”
“You know I got you, brother, even though you are basically blackmailing me. Tell me why I’m your best friend again?”
“Because you don’t like people, and you like me more than most. You basically don’t have friends”
“Neither do you, asshole,” he retorted, “You said she had a kid, right?”
“Yeah.”
“How old is the kid ?”
“He will be three in January. His name is Axel.”
“Okay, and he isn’t yours?”
“Biologically, no. But in all the ways that matter, he is my kid.”
“Well, shit.” He sighed. “I told you to leave the city and clear your head, and now you are coming back with a whole family. All that’s missing is the ring on your girl’s finger.”
Already ahead of you there, Callum, I said in my head. I hadn’t told anyone, but this had been on my mind since the day Danny and I kissed.
“And can you send your jet, please? Tomorrow would be most ideal. I want to give them the full VIP experience.”
