“I’ve gotten so close, and I’m now on their tour. I’ve won their trust, and I want to finish what I started.”

“A moot point now.”

“Don’t.” His fist hit the table, and my fork clattered off my plate. “Don’t say that.”

“Look,” I lowered my voice when a few people looked over, “give me a little more time to figure out how to handle my situation, and once I have that smoothed out, I’ll let you know, then you can do whatever you want.”

“How long?”

“A month.”

“No.”

I removed my sunglasses and tried to control my temper. I needed him to go away. He was going to ruin everything. I glared up at him and tried to keep my voice even.

“You need them to meet you at the Villa del Cardinale, correct?” I waited for him to acknowledge he was listening to me. His face was set like stone. “I can make that happen. You name the time and place, and I’ll make sure they are there, alone.”

“How can I trust you?”

“I let your mama live, didn’t I?”

He licked his lips, and I knew I was in danger of pushing him to the edge, but it was true. I didn’t kill his mother. I could have, and no one would ever have known.

“One month.” He pushed the table as he got up then left in a hurry. I motioned for the waiter to fill my water glass and slowly counted to ten, doing my best to relax, and it worked until I spotted Greta watching me from inside the restaurant.

I tugged at my dress shirt underneath my Alexander Amosu Vanquish suit. I hadn’t worn this one yet. I’d been saving it for an evening like tonight. I admired the incredibly soft vicuna fleece, diamond inlay, and the nine-karat gold buttons that sat in a row on the sleeve and front. Using my thumb, I carefully lifted out two of the more elegant weapons from my gun box. After all, an elegant outfit needed to be paired with the correct accessories.

A flash of gold had my gaze focusing on Sienna who stepped into my view in the mirror. A sexy smile grew across her lips as she took me in. I did the same, admiring the gold Dolce and Gabbana gown that hugged her shape and showed off her perfect breasts.

“I’m not complaining about any of this,” she twirled, enjoying the beautiful dress, “but now will you tell me where we’re going?”

“I could.” I turned around and took in her beauty. My heart skipped to a different rhythm whenever she was near, and tonight was no different. “But where would the fun be in you knowing?”

“That’s cruel.”

“No, mybella.” I came closer and touched the thin chain that held my crow pendant. It seemed fitting to see it nestled next to her little bear. I never tired of seeing it dangle above her cleavage. Each time, it reminded me of the moment I’d given it to her. We’d been so young. “What’s cruel is that I’ll have to look at you all night and know I have to behave.”

She draped her arms around my neck and smiled up at me. “When have you ever behaved?”

“This is true.” I kissed her gently and stepped back, knowing the night could be ruined if I didn’t control my head.

“Oh, a quick kiss and release. Tonight must be important,” she teased and reached for her wrap. “Ready?”

“I am.” I waved for her to head downstairs where the car was waiting.

She hesitated when her phone rang, and she glanced at the ID. She looked over at me, and I quickly went to her.

“Hi, Salvo.” She put him on speaker phone.

“Have you thought any more about my offer?”

“A little, yes.”

“Any conclusions?”

I mouthed for her to take a breath and not rush her words.

“What am I supposed to say to Elio?”
