“You’re blushing!” Becky says.

“Oh myGod, you two totally fucked in here last night, didn’t you?” Sammi asks, bumping hips with me.

I look over at Becky with a sheepish grin on my face, “Yep, it appears we did.” I’m waiting for her to flip.

Instead, she brings me in for another hug and says, “This is wonderful! My brother and my best friend, together,” holding my upper arms in her hands, she pulls me away from her, with a slightly crazed look in her eyes “wereally are sisters now. Oh, that makes me so happy!”

“I think I’m ready for a drink now,” I sigh. I start to walk out the room and to the bar when I stop dead in my tracks and hide behind the door.

“Where’s Bruce?”

“Oh, Bruce went home,” Becky says with a wave, “Clarisse is tendingthe bar right now.”

That’s who I thought I spotted behind the bar. Damn Bruce and his need to sleep. Why can’t he work here twenty-four hours a day? Maybe she’ll be cool about our interesting history.

So we flirted a few other times I’ve been in here. And, sure, there was thatsomewhatrecent time when we totally made out. But, I’m sure she’s not going to make a big deal about it.

I stick my head around the door to check out the scene. Clarisse spots me and gives me a flirty little wave.

Fuck. Double fuck when Percy pushes me out the door as they all head for the bar.

Once everyone else orders, Clarisse turns to me. In an effort to evade her prying eyes, I start walking toward Liam as he comes out from the back office area.

“Liam,” I say, “there you are.”

He looks a little surprised at that and says, “How did you know I was looking for you?”

“Oh, what can I say?” I say as I leadhim away from the bar. “Just a hunch, I guess.”

“YourNorberthas been calling my phone non-stop,” the Englishman says, holding up his cell phone and waving it around. “I haven’t been answering because I don’t want to talk to the dreadful man, but I thought I’d let you know.”

“Why is he calling you?”

“Something about how you weren’t answering his calls?”

“Oh, right,” I remember, “all of our phones are soaked. They’re toast.”

Technically, that’s not true for mine…but Liam doesn’t need to know that I’m ignoring Norbert’s calls, and neither does Norbert.

“Great,” he says, handing me his phone. “Take care of this, would you? I’ve tocall our provider and get my darling wife a replacement phone.”

I’m scrolling through his recent calls, which are just a repeated list of missed calls from Norbert. It looks like he left messages for the early calls. I catch Liam before he ducks into his office.

“Hey, Liam, what did he say on his messages?”

“Didn’t listen to them. And the asshole probably clogged up my voicemail at this point. It only holds a hundred messages.”

He wouldn’t be calling me so many times just to tell me to go to hell. This means there’s still a chance for us. As soon as I fill in all the blanks from last night, that is.

Just then, Liam’s phone rings. It’s Norbert. I press the reject button for it to go straight to voicemail before I even have a chance to think about what I’m doing. There’s no use talking to him until I have the answers to all the questions he’s bound to have about what happened last night.

Liam’s right—Norbert’s call would've made ahundred and one messages, so I really did end up rejecting him. Well, his call at least. Just add that to the list of grievances I’ll have to beg forgiveness for later.

I head to Liam’s office to give him his phone back. He’s on the office phone, so I just motioned to him that I’m leaving his cell on the desk and I walk out—straight into Clarisse.

“So, where did you finally end up last night?” she asks. She smellslike jasmine and she’s looking at me like I’m a piece of cake she wants to lick the frosting off of.

Well, fuck.
