Then someone slid an arm under her hips and tilted them up while a pillow was pushed underneath so her ass was tipped up in the air. It should have been humiliating and maybe it was but she was too out of it to care.

She heard gloves being snapped on and a snick of a cap being flipped open and then Dr. Eric was pulling her ass cheeks apart and slicking a finger over her hole. It was mortifying, but her whole body hurt except where Mr. Fox was rubbing her back and it didn’t feel exactly bad when Dr. Eric instructed, “Relax, Twyla. I just need to get you ready for the thermometer. Open up like a good girl,” and then pushed his finger inside her bottom.

She moaned softly and then Mr. Fox was pushing some loose strands of hair away from her face, careful not to touch the sorest spots.

“Are you okay? Does that hurt?”

“It doesn’t hurt,” Twyla responded, her cheeks getting hot.

“Alright. You’re being such a good, cooperative girl, sweetheart. I’m so proud of you.”

The praise made her heart flush instead of her face and she wanted to keep being Mr. Fox’s good girl so she tried to stay quiet and still and open while Dr. Eric slid his finger in and out of her bottom, adding more lube to ease the way. After a couple of minutes, his finger was replaced by a thermometer.

“That needs to stay in for five minutes for the most accurate reading.”

Twyla nodded her agreement and then the men were talking over her while they stroked her back and hair and bottom. It was enough to send her into kind of a trance. It was weird that she could hurt so much but feel so good all at the same time.

After what seemed like forever, Dr. Eric removed the thermometer from her bottom.

“You don’t have a temperature, that’s good. Now when’s the last time you ate?”

“Ate?”

She had to think about it. She didn’t have a snack in detention, her mom hadn’t left money for her lunch on the counter and they hadn’t had any food at home really. The milk was spoiled and the fruit was rotten. So it would’ve been…

“Dinner last night.”

There was a choking sound above her. Normally she’d be embarrassed and angry that someone knew how messed up her home was, her family was, but she didn’t have the energy to care too much at the moment.

“Okay,” Dr. Eric responded. “I’m going to give you some pain meds as a suppository then so your tummy doesn’t get upset.”

She didn’t have enough time to protest before first one and then a second capsule was being pushed into her bottom. When he was done, Dr. Eric pulled her panties up and he and Mr. Fox helped her off the exam table, then Mr. Fox helped her dress in some blue scrubs that had materialized from somewhere.

Mr. Fox helped her sit on the exam table which left her feet swinging in the air and then he sat down beside her. His feet touched the ground.

Dr. Eric looked at the notes he’d been taking and then started listing off all her injuries and how they should be treated. Her eyes glazed over about ten seconds in.

“You need to make sure she gets plenty of rest and plenty of fluids. And I know it’s going to be hard because her jaw is going to be sore, but she needs to eat. You need to check her temperature at least three times a day, and you can give her—”

“I…” Mr. Fox trailed off and his body was still warm but tense next to hers. He’d been holding her hand, his thumb circling the back of her wrist and now he stopped.

“I have to go home. He won’t be there,” Twyla said softly, ready to cry. She missed him already and he was still beside her.

Dr. Eric gave Mr. Fox a look she couldn’t read and then said kindly, “Okay. I’ll print out all the information you need and call in a prescription for you to pick up. I’m going to write out a list of all the things to watch out for. You’re very lucky you don’t have a concussion or any broken bones. If anything gets worse, you need to go to a hospital right away. And if you’re not sure, you can always call me. I’ll give you my cell in addition to the office phone number, okay? Only my very best patients get that.”

He winked and smiled at her and despite herself and how miserable she felt, Twyla smiled back.
